As I looked at the photographs taken during my childhood days,

it seemed only yesterday that I was a little child. My childhood

was a pleasant one. Being the only child in my family, my

grandparents doted on me. As a result, I was a rather

mischievous boy. I liked snacks like chocolates, ice-cream and
cadies, but I hated proper, meals. I can recall how my granny
had to run after me, one hand holding a bowl of porridge and
the other holding a spoon. I would run faster, shouting noisily
as I played with my toy aeroplane. What a little brat I must
have been! I also remember the time when I mistook the
laundry soap for a bar of chocolate and wanted to much it.
Luckily, my granny saw it before I took the first bite. Since I
have no brothers or sisters, I would play with my neighbours
at times. There was a boy, Luke, whom I looked up to. He was
very good at playing marbles and he used to share the marbles
he won with me. Now I am a big boy, my childhood hays have
become a beautiful past which is worthy of recollection.
There are four seasons in a year in my country. Each
season has its own charm. For me, I like summer

best. Below are some reasons for my preference.

First, summer is the time when I've long holidays.
When summer comes, I am free from my studies and
I can rest after busy work days. Secondly, summer
is the season of fruit. How delightful it is to go for
a picnic in the countryside on summer holidays and
enjoy delicious fruits such as: mangoes, grapefruits,
durians, and so on. Finally, I like summer best because
my birthday falls on June, 15th. This is an occasion
for me to hold a birthday party so that I can have
a good time with my friends.
Every morning, when the clock strikes five, I
immediately get out of bed. After making my bed, I do
morning exercises for about 15 minutes. After that I

brush my teeth, wash my face and review my lessons.

I eat breakfast at 6.15 I leave my house for school at
6.30. It takes me 15 minutes to go from my house to
my school by bike. I spend the whole morning studying
at school. School is over at 11.30. I come home, have
lunch and rest until 1.30. In the afternoon, I often stay
at home, do my homework and prepare the lessons for
the following day. At 4 o'clock I relax by playing
badminton with my friends in the neighborhood. At 5
o'clock, I help my mother to cook dinner. We eat supper
at 6 o'clock. After eating dinner I often watch TV. I
often go to bed at 10 o'clock.
My family has three people: my father, my
mother and me. I am the only daughter in my
©dailyenglish123.com All right reserved

family. I haven't any brothers. My father is a

lecturer in a college. He is 48 years old. He has
been teaching English for over 20 years. He is an
experienced teacher. He has already written 40
books. My mother works at the same school with
my father. She is 43 years old. She is a cheerful
and pretty person. As for me, I am a pupil at a
high school in the province now. I am a student.
My dream is to be an English teacher like my
parents. I hope that my dream will come true in
a near future.
Nobody can deny the advantages of foreign languages in life
now, especially English. As you know, I dream to become a
teacher of English not only because my parents are
©dailyenglish123.com All right reserved

teachers of English and I want to follow their career but

also English brings me many benefits. For example it can help
me to communicate easily with many people in many
countries all over the world. It's a useful and effective tool
of communication in the times of international
communication. English is a means for me to get access to
knowledge, science and technology. We must admit that
English is an important part in many fields of life: trade,
business, computer education, airmail, conferences,
telecommunication, literature, newspapers and magazines.
In brief, English is the golden key to open the treasures of
knowledge and seize the opportunities for career,
technology and development.
My maternal grandfather and grandmother are very old.
My grandfather is eighty years old and my grandmother
is seventy years old. I like grandfather very much. He
©dailyenglish123.com All right reserved

tells me a lot of stories. He also helps me do my school

work. My grandmother too loves me very much. She buys
me chocolates and sweets. She tells me to be good and
obedient to my father and mother. During my school
holidays I follow my grandparents to my uncle's house in
London. They always advise me to learn well and not to
play around too much. When I go to school my
grandfather follows me to the school and then he goes
back home. He wants to see that I am careful on the
road. Again when school is over I see my grandfather
waiting for me at the school gate. He takes me back home.
I love my grandfather and grandmother very much.
I like swimming, it is my favorite sport for I know that it is
healthy as well as good chance for one to exercise one's body.
Last Sunday morning, as the weather was fine, I went to the

beach with my family. It took us about two hours by car to arrive

at our destination, and I felt very excited about it. When our car
reached the top of the cliff overlooking the Bay, now I admired
the golden sand of the long beach, the blue sky and water, and the
splendid country surroundings which looked like and artist's
painting. We put on our bathing-suits and ran into the water. It
was a very happy swim for me. We played ball, challenged each
other in swimming a certain distance. Of course, I was always
beaten by my bigger brothers, but I was satisfied with my good
effort. When we felt tired, we play down on the beach to rest
and to have some sunbath. At about noon, we returned to our tent
and had lunch. About 3 p.m, we went once more into the water and
enjoyed the afternoon bath till 5 p.m. Finally, we got ready to
start for home. Everyone was delighted to have spent such a
wonderful day.
Mrs. Daisy is my Maths teacher. She is my favourite teacher.
Mrs. Daisy has short curly hair and wears thick glasses
which make her look strict. However, she is actually very
©dailyenglish123.com All right reserved

approachable and is always ready to lend an ear to our

problems. She is motherly and cares very much for us. I
remember once when I fell and hurt my knee, Mrs. Daisy
helped me to stop the bleeding and took me to the clinic. I
was very grateful to her. I used to dislike maths when I
was younger because I found it far too complicated. Mrs.
Daisy always makes maths lessons interesting and easy to
understand. She is very patient in explaming maths problems
tous and always makes sure everyone understands. Under
her guidance, my maths has improved by leaps and bounds.
I have grown to love maths and I always score high marks
in my maths tests now and it's all because of my favourite
teacher.
It was Prize-presentation Day. I was chosen to be
the model student of the year on the
recommendation of my teachers and class-mates.

I was happy that they thought so well of me. When

I went up the stage to collect the prestigious
medal and cash award, I was filled with pride and
joy. All my teachers and friends congratulated me
warmly. My parents beamed widely. They were
very proud of me. After the prize-giving
ceremony, my parents brought me to a toys shop.
There, they bought me a remote-controlled model
aircraft as a reward for being such a good
student. I was overjoyed because I had wanted the
model for a long time.
I learn many subjects in school. But the one I enjoy
learning is History. History tells us how people lived ages
ago. It also tells us how men had to struggle to make the
©dailyenglish123.com All right reserved

world a better place to live in. Many pupils, however, do

not like to read history. They say that there are too many
names and dates to remember. But they do not
understand that if we do not know about the past, we
cannot understand the present properly. In fact, only a
study of History will make us realize that everything we
do today is the result of what our grandfathers and
others before them did in the past. So, History is the long
story of man's struggle through the ages. As we read
this story, we learn many interesting things. I love history
so much that I have a lot of history books in my house.
Some day, I might even write a history book myself.
I like to go shopping at a supermarket because of the
following reasons: The supermarket is large, comfortable
and conveniently-located. It takes me only a few minutes
©dailyenglish123.com All right reserved

to walk there from my house. I usually don't have much

time for shopping, so I have to buy things according to
aplan, or from a shopping list. At this supermarket I can
buy exactly what I need very quickly because everything
is place on open shelves. All I have to do is choose
whatever I want and take it to the check-out counter.
Apart from that, I don't have to bargain over prices
before buying, yet I'm never afraid of being overcharged
for anything. Goods are sold at fixed prices and the
supermarket guarantees the things we buy. Should the
items become faulty, the supermarket will either have
them replaced or repaired for free.
A library is an ocean of all kind information; their
boundaries continue to extend with numerous
contributions of the endless streams of knowledge.
©dailyenglish123.com All right reserved

Thus, it has a peculiar fascination for scholars, and all

people who are thirsty for knowledge. The usefulness
of libraries in the spread of knowledge has been
proved. Life is so brief and the field of knowledge is
so extensive that even the most avid reader can never
expect to absorb it all. People who have a love for
knowledge, therefore, try to master only a small
fraction of it. Even this requires reading of hundreds
of books, expensive and cheap, old and new. But just
some of those are able to buy all the books on their
interest. It is therefore necessary for them to visit a
good library.
One of the most striking features of the present century
is the progress of science and its effects on almost every
©dailyenglish123.com All right reserved

aspect of social life. Building on the foundation laid by the

predecessors, the scientists of today are carrying their
investigation into ever-widening fields of knowledge. Modern
civilization depends largely on the scientist and inventor. We
depend on the doctor who seeks the cause and cure of
disease, the chemist who analyses our food and purifies our
water, the entomologist who wages war on the insect pests,
the engineer who conquers time and space, and a host of
other specialists who aid in the development of agriculture
and industry. The advance of science and technology has
brought the diffeient parts of the world into closer touch
with one another than ever before. We are able to reach
distant lands within a very short time.
Today I'm going to tell you about my last summer
vacation. Last year, I went to the beach with my family
©dailyenglish123.com All right reserved

for five days. We went there by plane. It was my first

time and I was very excited. I really love it. We stayed
in the hotel near the beach. It's was really hot and we
swam in the pool and the sea every day. I like the sea
the most because of the waves. I tried surfing but it
was difficult. In the evening, we ate sea food for
dinner in a restaurant then we go to open sea food
market here to buy some fish to bring home. We bought
lots of presents and souvenirs to our friends and
relatives. It was a brilliant holiday because I had
chances to see sunrise and sunset at the beach with
my family and we enjoyed good time together.
I'd like to tell you about my best birthday party. It was
my fifth birthday. My parents gave me a big red bicycle
as a present and celebrated a big party for me. The house
©dailyenglish123.com All right reserved

was decorated with ribbons and balloons. My mother made

a special birthday cake for me. It was a chocolate cake
with sweet cherries on the top. My grandparents came to
my birthday party, too. All my cousins and friends were
invited. I was very happy to see them. They brought many
gifts for me but I liked my grandparents' gift best. It was
a big dragon shaped kite. My friends sang 'Happy birthday
song' when I cut the cake. After cutting the cake, we sang
and danced lots of songs. Then we played many games, for
example, tags, hide and seek and badminton. My mother
gave prizes to the winners. All my cousins and friends had
presents, too. It was a lovely party. I love each moment
of it.
