1. (a) “When one engages in a criminal investigation, the objectives to be met are
prescribed by the criminal law.” Explain this statement. [20 marks]

(b) Using relevant examples, explain the different modes of investigation.

2. (a) Physical evidence can be categorized into four broad groups based on its origin,
composition or method of creation. Explain those categories with clear examples
on each. [10 marks]

(b) Examine the type of information that can be obtained from the use of physical
evidence. [10 marks]

3. (a) Define the term information theory. [2 marks]

(b) In committing crime, the offender emits “signals” or leaves behind information of
various sorts. Highlight any six of these signals. [18 marks]

4. (a) Outline any five significances of an evidence. [10 marks]
