Abstract. The plywood production from coconut coir fiber and water hyacinth was investigated to
reduce the residue and be increased of value and to reduce the use of natural wood by using coir and
water hyacinth which are pressed to be plywood production. LA - 35A TOA glue and natural
powders were used for plywood adhesive. The plywood tests were found in this research. The water
absorption, density, and bending strength test as per Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS A 5905) were
evaluated in this research. The results showed that coconut coir fiber was suitable for plywood
production and contained 1.93 percent of moisture content, 0.52 g per cm³ of density, and
86.5 percent of water absorption and 11.9 MPa of bending strength. The result showed that water
absorption value of plywood made from coconut coir fiber and water hyacinth was quite high and
this product suitable for use only indoor furniture. Moreover, these research was studied the
biodegradation of plywood products that made from coconut coir fiber and water hyacinth.

Introduction
The utilization of wood waste provided many advantages such as landfill cost and reduced the
waste disposal to landfill. Environmental benefits attribute to waste utilization using recovery
method. Contributes to sustainable use of natural resources, and sustainable environmental
management. Natural resource benefit using recovering and recycling wood from the waste gave a
result in the natural resources conservation. This research focused on the developing wood waste on
recycling, and recovery concepts. Many kinds of wood waste use as a waste utilization [1] such as
Durian, Sugar cane bagasse, palm shell, and others that some manufacturer making for use as
particle board, engineer wood [2,3]. Hence, coconut coir fiber, and water hyacinth are often
discharged as waste in the tropical region. In this research concerned with the waste utilization, and
the plywood product made from coconut fiber, and water hyacinth were studied.

Methodology
Coconut fiber, and water hyacinth were prepared using an automatic press. The fiber length of
7 mm, on average. Waste was dried and prepared for plywood production. The plywood made from
coconut coir fiber and water hyacinth was pressed to be plywood production. LA - 35A TOA glue
and tapioca starch were used for plywood adhesive. The plywood tests were found in this research.
The water absorption, density, and bending strength test as per Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS A
5905). The conditions used in this research are separated into 2 parts; 1) No tapioca starch used and
adhesive 2) used tapioca starch as an adhesive.
