Technological advancements, including the internet, have changed the way we live drastically.

Our interaction and relationship with others have changed as well as how easily we exchange
information. It also provides our learners with a platform for self-expression and engagement
with a wider audience via the internet and social media. Increasing internet use combined with
less information about children's online activities makes them exposed to online risks such as
pornography, cybersex, and cyberbullying.
And with that, Be Internet Awesome is just one of several steps we can take to ensure our
student's safety online. In accordance with the Department of Education's zero-tolerance policy
against abuse, exploitation, discrimination, bullying, and other forms of violence against
children, BIA aims to educate parents, teachers, and students regarding the potential risks of
being on the internet. Learners will also be taught how to stay safe online and develop their
capacities to do so. Teachers may also use this to initiate lessons that focus on preventing and
addressing young ones’ exposure to risky online situations.

Thanks for getting us involved in this Orientation. With that, I would like to extend my
Congratulations and appreciation on the launch of this excellent Be Internet Awesome
Orientation, organized by the TLE Department under the leadership of Ms. Rosalie L de Jesus,
our department head, as well as Sir Michael Bryan Molano and Sir Philipp Roxas, the two focal
persons on this Be Internet Awesome orientation. We are also fortunate to have the support of
our School Head, Mrs Ma Christina C. Salonga, in promoting and supporting Digital Citizenship
among Siterians.

As a teacher, we should ensure that all avenues of self-expression and socialization, whether
offline or online, are safe for our learners. Our shared responsibility is to protect and ensure
them that nothing hinders their ability to be amazed, involved, and empowered.

Always remember, your safety is our priority but it's everyone's responsibility. Keep safe online
siterians!!
