Research on the history of tourism and hospitality of your
local community. Interview your parents or grandparents about
what life is like during their times in relation to tourism and
hospitality. How do they receive guests? How do they treat
guests?

Introduction

The Siquijodnons, sometimes referred to as the inhabitants of Siquijor

Island, are renowned for their hospitable disposition. When visitors arrived
at their houses in the past, they were welcomed with open arms and
treated as respected members of the family. The residents of Siquijor
treated their visitors with decency, friendliness, and charity as a way of
life.

How do they receive guests?

They receive or welcome their guests by making them feel special; they
dress well to impress the guest; and they clean and decorate their house to
make the guest more comfortable while staying there. They always show
their sweet smile to the guest so that the guest will enjoy their stay and
feel safe. And they ask their guests if they are enjoying their vacation, and
they are always at their side, ready to serve them.
How do they treat guests?

They treated their guests very well; they served many foods and drinks,
and they always showed the guests how hospitable the Siquijor people are.
They tour the guests on the island, showing them the beautiful places and
historical places on the island, and in time for eating, they serve food that
the island has to offer, like sea urchin (Salwaki/Tuyom) and other dishes
like sea cucumber salad, grilled fish and squid, and other seafood that is
abundant on the island, like seashells. They do this so that the guests enjoy
their stay and get a sense of the island's way of life, as well as give them a
reason to return.

Conclusion

The Siquijodnons also held that giving gifts to guests was a way to
express their gratitude and admiration. These presents frequently
reflected the regional culture and were handmade. No of their rank or
origin, they also made sure to treat their guests with respect and dignity.
Visitors to Siquijor Island should anticipate receiving the same degree of
warmth and care as they did in the past because this hospitality culture is
still very much present there.
