NARRATIVE

REPORT IN NSTP
CULTURES AND
TRADITIONS
CABILAS, PETER
JONES A.
For our third task in NSTP our teacher told us to make a write up and sample video on
the cultures and traditions of our respective areas. We all know that each tribe or place has their
own different and unique practices or culture. Here in Pimukpuk we have different traditions and
beliefs since we are divided into 23 barangays. In our place we practice Bodong, is a peace pacts
within the sub-tribes to resolve tribal conflicts. It is our tradition to welcome visitors with rice
cake or suman with matching pure brewed coffee. But the one that I include in the video is the
most common tradition which practice in many area or place is the “PALANUS”. When we say
palanus it is the customary marriage celebration between a man and a woman. It is otherwise
known as the “ngilin” in the ancient times. In palanus in order to show acceptance the woman’s
family butcher a pig or any cattle and prayers are chanted. In addition, the elders from the bride’s
family or community take turns in giving advices to the bride and groom.
