Lecture 5 skeletal part 1:

 Describe briefly the bone:

The word skeleton is derived from the Greek word ‘skeletos’ which means
‘dried up’
The skeleton of the body is made up of bones and cartilages which are
specialized connective tissues
Bones are living and dynamic structures

Functions of the bones:


Supports the body
Facilitates movements
Protects internal organs
Produces blood cells
Stores and releases minerals and fat
Describe the main features of the types of bones with examples of each:
 Differentiate between axial skeleton and appendicular skeleton:
List the components of the axil skeleton and appendicular skeleton:
Describe briefly the skull (vault, base and mandible).:
Lecture 6 skeletal part 2:

• Describe the parts of vertebral column (spine).


• Describe briefly, the salient features of cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral
and coccygeal vertebra.
• Describe the normal and abnormal curvature of the spine:
• Name the bones forming the thoracic cage (ribs and sternum):
Lecture 7 skeletal part 3:
• Describe the main features of the clavicle, scapula, humerus, radius, ulna,
hip bone, femur and tibia:
