Personal Perspectives
Submit with your Collaborative Research Lesson Study Paper
A 2-page Personal Perspectives narrative is to be attached to your CRLS paper. This is a narrative
that is unique to you. It is a reflection of what the lesson study experience was like for you in your
community of practice and gives me a better understanding of how this group experience was for
you.
I didn’t know what to expect from this lesson study but I’m glad everything wasn’t
stressful. Since the beginning, everything was smooth sailing. I am very grateful for my group
members because they were responsible, communicative, and open-minded. One thing that
definitely benefited us was how well we trusted each other. Throughout the lesson study, we all
did our part and were very honest with each other. If a due date was coming up we all
collboarated and told eachother what we plan to do and what we actually did. That way everyone
was on the same page. I couldn’t have asked for a better team.
I was acquainted with Joannah and I was already close with Erin and Kari. I wasn’t afraid to
communicate my opinions because I knew that everyone in the group would be accepting and
respectful of my ideas. One thing that benefitted us was establishing our strengths and
weaknesses for our lesson study. By doing so, we were aware of which responsibilities we could
take on. This was helpful because there was no main leader in our group. Instead, we all
communicated what we did and needed to do for our lesson study. Kari played a big factor in our
punctuality. She reminded the group of the due dates and took the initiative in starting
assignments. A common goal the group shared was organization. We all wanted to finish this
assignment early because the standard needed to be taught in Quarter 3 and we didn’t want to
waste any time. Even though the lesson study came rather quickly we all worked together to
finish with quality. We knew that our due dates were a lot sooner than other groups but we

worked together to get them done in time. The trust and communication that my group has for
each other allowed us to maintain a positive relationship and take accountability for our
responsibilities. Throughout the lesson study, I’d also like to thank Joannah for taking on the role
of teaching the lesson study. She was absolutely brave and did amazing. During the lesson, she
carried out our group expectations and taught with her best. Her confidence in teaching built trust
within our group. Lastly, I’d like to thank Erin for allowing us to use her classroom and
providing us with materials for our lesson study. She prepped her class well for our lesson study
which made it easier for Joannah to teach. Also, all of the paperwork that was used for her class
and the round table was because of Erin’s generosity of her resources. Overall everyone excelled
in their roles. I didn’t have to worry about anyone lacking because we were all aware of our roles
and responsibilities.
As for the lesson study part it was a great experience. Working with my classmates on an
issue in the same community was interesting. The opportunity to also work closely with the
university supervisors and mentors was enjoyable. I especially appreciated the debriefing before
the lesson study and the reflecting after the lesson study. After the process I felt closer to Dr.
Kamai. Her insight on our lesson study helped us specify what we really wanted to focus on in
our lesson study. Having these meetings helped me understand the lesson study process clearer. I
realized that teaching is much simpler than I thought it was. This lesson study not only answered
our research questions but I practiced being patient and flexible. For our lesson study, we wanted
to teach multiple lessons. However, our university supervisors and mentors helped us break
down our lesson study and refine it. I discovered that it is better to be thorough than do more.
