BEAUTY CARE (Nail Care)
QUARTER - 2 WEEK 3

Learning Competency with code:

* MELC LO 2: Perform basic preventive and corrective maintenance
* Clean tools according to standard procedures
* TLE_HEBC7/8MT-0d-e-3

Background Information for learners:

There are health risks that people will encounter at the nail salon if the
owner or workers failed to disinfect and clean their tools and equipment. If you
want to go to a salon, you should be mindful when you visit there and observe the
surrounding.

Beautician or someone who is working in a salon needs to know the basics of

preventive and corrective maintenance. When we say preventive maintenance, it is
a maintenance that is regularly performed on a piece of tool or equipment to lessen
the likelihood of failing it. Corrective maintenance on the other hand is a
maintenance task performed to identify, isolate, and to correct a fault so that the
failed equipment can be restored to an operational condition.

KEEPING TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT SAFE, CLEAN, AND FUNCTIONAL

1. Sterilize metal tools after each use in a hospital-grade disinfectant that is

bactericidal, virucidal, and fungicidal. This disinfectant can be found in beauty
supply stores. Immerse the tools in the disinfectant for10 minutes.
2. Disinfect foot basins after each use with a bleach solution. Make a 1-10
solution by mixing one-part bleach with 10 parts water. Using gloves, rinse the
basin with the solution to disinfect. If necessary, scrub with a detergent to
remove any dirt or debris.
3. Use a boiling method of sterilization once a month to disinfect all metal tools.
Designate one pot for sterilization to prevent cross-contamination with food.
Submerge the tools in boiling water for 10 minutes. Drain the tools and allow
them to dry.
4. Store sterilized metal tools in an airtight, zipper-sealed bag to keep them from
being exposed to dirt and bacteria. Be sure tools are completely dry before storing
them. If waiting more than a couple of weeks before the next nail care service,
sterilize the tools again before use.
5. Inspect tools and equipment regularly to identify defective ones for repair,
replacement or condemnation.
Regular maintenance is important to keep the tools and equipment
reliable and safe to use. Also, it is important to check and inspect tools and
equipment before doing the service to determine which one is damaged or not and
report immediately. Failure to inspect for defective tools can cause infection and
minor or fatal injuries.
Regular maintenance is a routine maintenance done on a regular basis,
whether that be daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. Routine maintenance is an
important part of keeping tools and equipment up to date and functional.
