Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 8

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson the students should be able to :

1. Define Biodiversity
2. Identify the Levels of Biodiversity
3. Discuss the Importance of Biodiversity

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Biodiversity
Materials : Pictures and Visual aids
References: Science Learner’s Module. Pp.

Strategies: Inductive,Deductive and Collaborative

III. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities

 Prayer
(One student will lead the class)

 Checking of attendance
May I know who are the absent for today?

(The secretary will stand and tell

who are the absentee )
 Introduction about Science

Can you first define science?

Science is a systematized body of

knowledge.

One of the branches of Science is Biology.

Now what comes into your mind when you
Hear this word?

Biology is the scientific study of

life.
It makes you explore the
fundamental concepts and
principles of the study of living
organisms and their interaction
with the environment.
Very good!
B. Motivation

This morning you are going to have

An activity. So you will be grouped into
Two.
All you have to do is to List down living
organisms you know or can be found in
your community. The more organisms you
listed the higher score you will get.
I will give you 20 seconds only.

Do you have any questions?

No ma’am!
Ok! Let’s start our activity.

From the activity you do a while ago.

Do you have any idea what is our topic?
For today?
Ma’am I think our topic for
today is all about
BIODIVERSITY.
Very Good!

C. Lesson Proper

Do you have any idea What is Biodiversity

all about?
“Bio” means life and
diversity means variety or
abundance.
It refers to the different
living organisms found in
Earth.
Very good!
According to scientist there are three levels
of Biodiversity.
Can you enumerate those levels?
The three levels are species
diversity, genetic diversity
and ecosystem diversity.
Very good!

The first level is the species diversity

(Show pictures of different living organisms.)

By looking at the pictures.
Do you have any idea what is species diversity?
Species diversity relates to
the number and relative
abundance of a species
within a community.
Very good!
Can you give other examples of species
diversity in your community?
Dogs,Cats Pigs,Mangoes
And Flowers.
Very good!

The second level is the genetic diversity

(Show pictures of examples of genetic diversity.)

By looking at the pictures.
Do you have any idea
What is Genetic Diversity?
Genetic diversity is the total
number of genetic
characteristics in the
genetic makeup of species.
Very good!

Can you give other examples of Genetic Diversity?

Fish: (milkfish , threadfin
bream,mudfish,fusilier,
rabbitfish,anchovy,ponyfish
and sardines.
Very good!

The third level is the Ecosystem diversity.

(Show pictures of examples of ecosystem diversity.)

By looking at the pictures.
Do you have any idea
What is Ecosystem Diversity?
It talks about the different
kinds of places where
organisms live and their
interconnections that bind
these organisms together.
Very good!

Can you give other examples

of Ecosystem Diversity?

Forests,rivers,oceans,desert
,grasslands,lakes,streams,
coral reefs and wetlands.

Very good!

Do you have any questions?

D. Abstraction
I know you’ve learned a lot of things from discussion.
Who can summarize about our topic this morning.
Biodiversity refers to the
different living organisms
living on earth. There are
three levels of biodiversity
namely: species diversity,
genetic diversity and
ecosystem diversity.
Very good!

What do you think is the importance of biodiversity

in ecosystem and in human?
Biodiversity boosts
ecosystem productivity
where each species, no
matter how small, all have
an important role to play.
For example, a larger
number of plant species
means a greater variety of
crops. Greater species
diversity ensures natural
sustainability for all life
forms.

It is very important to
humans in a number of
different ways: food,
medicines and raw
materials.
Very good!

E. APPLICATION

The same group.

Make a slogan about protecting
and conserving biodiversity.
I will give you one minute to do the activity.
Then choose a representative in each group
to discuss it in front.
Am I understood?

(Present the criteria)

Relevance to the theme – 40 %

Clarity of message – 20 %
Originality- 15 %
Creativity – 15 %
Impact and presentation – 10 %
TOTAL 100 %
IV. EVALUATION
½ Crosswise
Write an essay on how biodiversity is important in the ecosystem and in human.

V. AGREEMENT
Draw any kind of living organisms that can be found in your community.
