Global Warming: How it

Started and How it’s Going

Children’s Book by Patrick McElroy (Ages 6-10)
Page 1

Hello! My name is Ursa the polar bear and I’m going to tell you the story of global
warming. Let’s start at the beginning. It was the late 1800s, an exciting time to be alive
with many new inventions being made like the light bulb and automobiles. However,
creation always comes with a price...
Page 2

The whole world was being powered by coal, oil, and gas. These things are great for
creating things like electricity and powering cars, but they put dangerous and dirty smoke
into the air. The scientist thought that the dirty smoke would end up making the world hot
and causing global warming...
Page 3

The only problem was that other scientists didn’t believe him, and unfortunately neither
did the rest of the world. As more and more people were coming into this world, the more
damage was being done. Not believing in this idea sooner is why my home went from
looking like this...

...To this

My home used to be snowy and cold all the time,

we had plenty of food to eat and plenty of snow to
play in. But over time my home has been losing
snow year by year, getting hotter and hotter making
it hard to live normal lives.
Page 5

A scientist by the name of Dr. Charles David Keeling began researching the smoke in the
air that made my home so hot. He was able to see that since the late 1800s the smoke and
harmful gas has been increasing every year until now! Once this research became public,
the world began responding to climate change, but it might be too late...
Page 6 Before After

Global warming and climate change have become the world’s biggest issues, it is affecting
plants and animals all around the world. Animals around the world are losing their homes or
having trouble surviving because of climate change. You can see here that even some of my
own friends are getting hit the hardest.

Because of the awful things that are happening because of climate change, we need to
work together in order to save the plants, the animals, and the future of the world.
Hopefully, you can help make my home a snowy and beautiful place to live again!

With Dr. Keeling’s data and the damage to nature and animals that the world has seen, the
time is NOW to help keep what we haven’t lost yet and create a safe and healthy future for
you and coming generations.
