Length Requirements: Horizontal cross-connect wires and patch cords shall not exceed a length
of 5 m (16 ft) . Systems designers shall plan for a combined maximum cable length of 10 m (33 ft)
for patch cords and for equipment connections in the work area and TR. This length is in addition to
the 90 m (295 ft) of cable allowed between the TR and work area outlet.
For the facilities with Wireless LAN connectivity, Wireless Access Point outlets shall not be
installed more than 3.75 meters above finished floor level.
4.2.4 The operating voltage of “in-plant party paging stations” shall be 120 Volts AC, 60 Hz.
Cables and splicing materials used on outside plant projects shall be of filled type. Copper cables
shall comply with SAES-T-920, fiber optic cables shall comply with 18-SAMSS-625 and splice
closures shall comply with SAES-T-633.
Copper cables are recommended to be tested for grounds, opens, shorts, crosses, and shield
continuity; and fiber optic cables are recommended to be tested by OTDR for continuity and dB
loss.
5.1.1.2 All metallic loops in Saudi Aramco are considered exposed to lightning, except any on
premises extensions that are:
a) Not exposed to 300 volts or more and
b) Not extended to a separate building located more than 43 m (140 ft.) away.
Fiber optic test requirements as per SAES-T-624 Table 1 that, the maximum
attenuation of each fiber within a cable, when normalized to a length of 1 km 1- At
wavelength = 1,300 nm, shall be 0.5 dB km or less, and 2- At wavelength = 1,550 nm,
Buildings larger than 100 m² (1076 ft²) in size (usable space) shall have a Telecommunications Room
as a minimum space requirement. In multi-story buildings a minimum of one Telecommunications
Room shall be provided for each floor level. There is no maximum number of TRs that may be
provided within a building. See paragraph 4.4.2.16 “Size Requirements.”
All telecommunications cable and equipment shall be properly grounded in accordance with Saudi
Aramco Engineering Standards and TIA/EIA-607 Commercial Building Grounding and Bonding
Requirements for Telecommunications
An additional TR shall be placed when distances between the IWA and the Telecommunications
Room exceed the maximum length (90 meters [295 feet]) for horizontal cabling
Lighting of Telecommunications Rooms and Closets shall be a minimum of 540 lux (50 foot-
candles) measured 91 cm (3 feet) above the finished floor level. Locate light fixtures a minimum of
2.6 meters (8 feet. 6 inches) above the finished floor.
4.4.2.18 Clearances
Telecommunications Room (TR) layouts shall allow a minimum of 91 cm (36 inches) of clear
work space in front of equipment and termination fields. It is important to note that the clearance is
measured from the outermost surface of equipment. A minimum access of 76 cm (30 inches) shall
be provided to the rear of equipment for maintenance purposes.
SEMCO's PR-855 U.L. Classified Firestop Sealant and 3M Brand Fire Barrier Caulk CP 25 and Putty 03
U.L. Classified Fire Stopping Sealant or equivalent sealants are acceptable fire retardant sealants for
use inside buildings. All fire sealants used inside building (except at the building conduit entrance
from the outside) must be listed as complying with UL 1479.
Verify that excavations for precast manholes provide a minimum clearance of 205 mm between the
exterior wall surfaces (ends and sides) of the manhole and the surfaces of the walls of the excavation.
Excavated trench for the new manholes to be constructed in vehicular traffic areas will be having the
minimum depth cover of 355 mm above the MH roof.
Verify that the minimum cover requirements of 600 mm for copper buried cable is maintained for
the excavated trench prior cable laying commenced.
Ground resistance of 25 ohms or less is established for the installed main electrodes that consist of a
minimum of 2.44 m (8 ft.) .
Telecommunications equipment rooms shall have adequate and uniform lighting with a minimum
intensity of 50 foot-candles (LM/ft²) measured 91 cm (36 inches) above the floor level.
The 'PANI' grounding method represents the ultimate grounding practice for
telecommunications networks. The PANI model sub-divides a ground bar into four sectors, P
- A - N - I, which are identified as Surge Producers, Surge Absorbers, Non-Isolated Equipment,
and Isolated Equipment
P surge producers (such as interior radio equipment including cable trays that are connected to radio
equipment, Cable Shield/Cable Vault Ground Bar and MDF/Entrance Cable Protector Ground Bar)
A surge absorber (both ground leads coming from the opposite sides of the ground grid) √
N non-isolated equipment (DC Power system positive return bus, computer floor, communication
racks and cable trays)
I isolated equipment (electronic switching equipment and transmission systems and terminal
Equipment)
4.4 Acoustical booths shall be furnished for the party paging stations
in areas where ambient noise levels exceeds 80 dBA. The ambient
noise level measured inside the acoustical booths shall not exceed 80
dBA.
6.13 The loudspeaker for the party paging system shall be mounted to
a minimum height of 2.5 meters. The loudspeaker cone shall not point
upwards in a vertical direction.
In pulling cables do not exceed 110 N (25 lbf) for category 5e or 6 twisted-pair cable, 178 N (40
lbf) for the Series 6 (RG6) coaxial cable and follow manufacturer recommendations for the
optical fiber cable. Leave a minimum of 1 m (3 ft) of cable slack at the distribution device and
0.25 m (8 in) at the information outlet
