Course Title: Keyboarding Course Code: KBFO v4-0
Course Length: N/A Project Length: N/A
Prerequisites: N/A Exams: N/A
Course Description
This course gives the student an introduction to the fundamentals of keyboarding. This
course will help the students reinforce their English language skills and develop their
ability to key and compose information, develop the proper keyboarding techniques and
skills, The gradual pace of this course will help the students develop both speed and
accuracy while applying the proper keyboarding techniques and position. Students will
also develop their proofreading techniques, and improve their word processing
techniques in a windows environment.
Selected sessions between 1 and 37 will help students reinforce English language skills,
develop the ability to key and compose information/material, develop keyboarding skill
and accuracy, and develop proofreading techniques, while improving word processing
techniques in a windows environment.
This course is structured in a unique way. Although it is allotted a 40 hour block, your
instructor may deliver it in an extended format. That is to say that it may not be covered
in a straight ten day sequence. The reason why this is possible is because the practical
work for this course is done entirely online using the Keyboarding Online Lab system
hosted by Paradigm publishing. You have access to this system on a 24/7 basis. Even
after the completion of the specified sessions, you will continue to have access to the
system to continue perfecting your skills. Therefore with this online setup, it is perfectly
reasonable to have you work through the practical sessions on a continual basis in blocks
of 30 or 60 minutes per day, 2 or 3 days per week. (or any other sequence approved by
the instructor.) You are able to access this system from the campus learning center
computers or from any Internet enabled computer at any time. You can even do it from
your home computer. This feature will allow you to work beyond the prescribed Sessions
1 to 37 and complete the full 60 sessions thus developing a higher speed and accuracy
rating than that determined as the minimum for the course.
You will be instructed on how to log in to the system and work through the practical
assignments. Likewise, your instructor will also be able to log in and view your progress
on a daily basis and see your results and grades. All attempts at the practical activities are
logged in the system journal and the instructor is able to retrieve any report that is
required for recording purposes.
Regardless of the delivery sequence that your instructor will have adopted, you are
certainly free to progress at a pace which is greater than that prescribed in this learning
guide. This guide has been created using the typical 4-hour per day format to keep it in
our standard format and the most fundamental sequencing. We have labeled the
sequencing as Units and not as Days to allow for the varied sequences of delivery that the
different instructors may adopt.
Upon completion of the required sessions, (37) you will still have access to the Paradigm
Keyboarding Online lab and you are free to continue perfecting your typing skills by
completing the remaining sessions 38 to 60.
