Chapter 10 - Conflict

INSTRUCTOR: Layne Gneiting

Chapter Summary

● In this chapter, it talks about conflict and conflict resolution. This means that

problems or situations occur and how you deal with them is what decides

the outcome. This chapter stresses deeply about the skills of conflict

resolution and why conflict continues to occur.

Quotes

● “Dealt with constructively, conflict brings a variety of benefits to us, both

personally and relationally.” (p.244)

○ This quote stood out to me because conflict is something that can't

always be avoided and when it does occur, try and learn from it so you

wont make the same mistake.

● “By avoiding conflict, you never develop your conflict resolution skills and,

eventually, the odds are you'll encounter a conflict that you can't avoid.”

(p.249)

○ This quote stood out to me because it shows that facing conflict is

sometimes more important than avoiding it. Avoiding it entirely just

equates to lack of conflict resolution skills which is not desirable.

Human Code

● This chapter reveals conflict as either a strength or weakness depending on if

you have the resolution skills required. If you have the skills, you can resolve

conflicts better and with more efficiency.

Hacking the Human Code

● This knowledge allows me to hack the inner self by either resolving skills if

someone lacks the capability; or, by letting someone resolve the issue to

build that said skill.

Experiment

● For this week's experiment, I was to initiate a conflict and see how or if

others could resolve it. This would build on a layer of trust and conflict

resolution.
