INTERVIEW REPORT

NARRATIVE OF THE REPORT

On Monday, March 13, we did an interview with Irene Ibias Adams, 32 years old and the
Owner of KADE Bicycle Shop in Valencia City, Bukidnon. The interview was done in Purok
logdeck DKD, Valencia City. The interview’s main objective was to develop, appreciate and
embrace the entrepreneurial mindset.

Automotive Industry Description

Different forms of transport have always had different effects on the cityscape, landscape,
nationscape and airscape. Modes of moving from A to B have consumed, manipulated and
divided this space, often requiring other activities to operate around it. This division is seen
most obviously in roads and their effect on community (see for example The Castle), but
also in other scapes such as the control of airspace through flight paths which has had a
marked effect on, for example, the migratory flight paths of birds. With the adoption of new
transport technologies, scapes are manipulated to accommodate the needs of this
technology. The bicycle is an interesting example of a technology, which in its popularity last
century began to affect the architecture of the landscape, before the automobile left its
indelible imprint. With the disenchantment with cars in the Western world, it is interesting to
ponder on the effect that bicycles are now having with the resurgence of their popularity. At
this point, it must be noted that this is a purely Western orientated study and it would be
worthwhile comparing these spatial effects to the scapes in a highly cycle-dominated country
such as China.
2 /2
The popularity of bicycles peaked In the 1880-90s (Bardou et al. 7). This craze was partly
due to the attraction of the technology, but also due to an associated sense of freedom and
escape. This attitude to the bicycle is expressed in HG Wells’s novella, Wheels of Chance
(based in 1895) where the main character, a draper called Mr Hoopdriver, undertakes a
cycling tour of the south coast of England. Freedom takes on two meanings—firstly, Mr
Hoopdriver finds a sense of freedom in being able to escape from his mundane life and
travel the long distances solo and in a shorter time. He also observes another type of
freedom in the form of the Young Lady in Grey who is also on a cycling tour. Mr Hoopdriver
is shocked to see a woman exerting herself physically and wearing pants, yet realises that
there is no question of women cycling side saddle wearing a skirt. It seems that in this form
of transport, the emancipation of women progresses a little further. This freedom led to the
enormous popularity of bicycles and as a result, bicycle organisations began to petition for
the improvement and expansion of roads which were in a poor state due to the use of horses
(Fink 8). And so bicycles began to impose their needs on the landscape and with the
expansion of road networks, the landscape was altered markedly. Interestingly enough,
these roadworks were one factor which led to the bicycle’s demise in popularity and the
accelerated manufacture of cars (Bardou et al. 9).
Characteristics of the Entrepreneur
As an entrepreneur for 18 years, she learned to be patient in her work and managed her
time professionally. She focused on her business with dedication and determination. She
was also patient with her employees. Despite the ups and downs, she is full of perseverance
and enthusiasm in the business industry.
Origin of the venture
According to Mrs. Irene Ibias Adams It was a family business it started from her father in law,
they had it at the age of 30 and was passed down through generations, and they continued it
on there own.
The name of the company “kade” was from her partner a biker since child and joined many
bike competitions around the province and they decided to name it after him since a lot of
bikers know him and is easy to remember.
Challenges encountered
According to Ms. Irene the chellenges don’t happen in the starting point of the business. But
as time goes by, as the business gradually grows, competitors come as well the the
obstacles and those things are cannot be prevented in business industry. These competitors
might be the most common denominators of the Entrepreneurs nowadays.
“Always be positive we all know that business requires sacrifices and patience we just pray
and trust God’s plans”
-Ms. Irene Ibias Adams
Impact of Interview
The interview was done by Apple Grace F. Sanopao and Hance Laurence A. Ragmac,
students in Valencia National High School, 12 GAS Temperance. After the interview we
share our insights about what we have learned from the entrepreneur. After discussing what
they have learned, they came up with the same idea. We have learned from our
conversations are valuable to our own entrepreneurial endeavors. Ideally, it helps us learn
more about the steps they took to get where they are. Being a hardworking person, having
perseverance, and giving dedication to your work is a must in order for you to be a
successful entrepreneur. Think big and have knowledge beyond expectations on the
business you want to take up. One thing to remember about starting a business or starting
off being an entrepreneur is that failure is not the end of everything, but the chance at a new
beginning. You cannot set down this path and expect not to fail once or twice. If you will start
knowing that along the way you will encounter failure, you will be better off.
Conclusion
Overall, we believe the interview has been a great success. We learned more about
entrepreneurship, and we had the chance to know the various difficulties encountered when
starting a business. I’m hoping that our research interview will enlighten and broaden the
knowledge of our classmates. Entrepreneurship is a wonderful way for people to gain
independence and use their ideas to launch their own enterprises in today’s super-
competitive global marketplace. Learning about entrepreneurship enhances one’s capacity
for logical and critical thought, which helps in problem-solving. By offering simple solutions to
complex problems. Entrepreneurs make the world a better place.
