ACTIVITY
Assume that you are about to start a small business (with about two [2] to three [3] employees) in your local
community. Your primary goal is to maximize profit using an ethical perspective.

Answer the following items: (4 items x 10 points)

1. Which type of management style (immoral, amoral, moral) would you employ? Explain.
I will use moral management because being a moral manager will understand the value and
importance of doing the right thing as expected by all stakeholders, and thus, he or she takes all
ethical considerations into perspective when making decisions or establishing practices and policies
for the business.

2. Considering the size of the business, what type of ethical lapses (unethical employee, moral
blindness, opportunity pressures, competitive pressures, etc.) do you expect?
The unethical employee because this one is really common specially here in our country and
also unethical employee behavior is becoming an increasingly serious problem for organizations. It
can take many forms, ranging from theft to disclosure of confidential information to the
misrepresentation of products and services. The adverse impact of such behavior includes inventory
shrinkage, lawsuits and fines.

3. Based on the identified ethical lapses, which ethical test/s (utilitarian principle, golden rule, family
test, etc.) would you use as the foundation of your company? Explain how the chosen ethical test/s
would help minimize if not eliminate the possible ethical lapses.
I will use the golden rule because the Golden Rule's financial impact on a business is simple,
treat your employees as you would want to be treated, and they will work harder, be more
enthusiastic about their job, better problem solvers, better with customers, stick around longer, and
spread the word far and wide that your company is outstanding. And also the Golden Rule can help
you build consistency as a leader and as an organization. It helps you establish a standard of
behavior and influence others to adhere to that standard in all situations and circumstances. This
makes decisions about how to treat people in different situations easier.

4. Propose ways to maintain the ethical standards in your organization. Give at least three (3) concrete
courses of action.
For me the most effective courses of action in Establishing and Maintaining Ethical Standard,
first is Reward Ethical Conduct. the reward system is a large window into the values of an
organization. If you reward a behavior, people tend to repeat the behavior. Second is Enforce the
Code of Ethics Through Policies. Set appropriate policies for your organization. Communicate with
them regularly and adhere to them yourself so that others can see. Managers must act whenever
they discover ethical violations. If employees learn that ethical breaches go unpunished, the code of
ethics becomes meaningless. Enforcement of the code of ethics demonstrates to everyone that you
believe ethical behavior is mandatory. The third one is Set the Tone. Entrepreneurs must set an
impeccable ethical example at all times. Remember that ethics starts at the top. If entrepreneurs
and their managers talk about the importance of ethics and then act in an unethical manner, they
send mixed signals to employees. Workers believe the actions of those in charge more than their
words.
