OUR COMMUNITY IN THE OLDER TIMES

When I asked my grandmother about how they lived before, she said that it was a lot simpler.
Here are some old ways they lived before.

In doing laundry, they go to a flowing river to do the laundry by hand, using an aluminum batya
or basin like this. They also use palo-palo, a wooden tool to hit the clothes to remove strong dirt.

Us Filipinos love our dishes with coconut, since Philippines is home to many coconut trees.
Before, men grate the coconut using the tool pangkayod, a wooden instrument where you sit on it and
grate the coconut on the sharp end material attached to it.
My grandmother also said that they are using a very big and heavy television before for
entertainment. The television before is kept inside a box, like a cabinet. There is no remote control
then and the display is in black and white.

There are many tools they used before that I never knew or seen. There is this palayok, a pot
made out of clay for cooking, the tapayan, a jar also made of clay for water storage, and a flat iron made
of steel, which you need to put in hot charcoal to work.
