Title: A Dead Woman’s Secret

Characters:
Marguerite
 Also known as Sister Eulalie, she is a
nun, she is very religious and she is the
dead woman’s daughter.
 Flat Character because she still loves
her mother even after they discover the
hidden letters.
 Direct Characterization because the
author describes Marguerite directly.
The Judge
 He is a judge which he emote the weak
ones without pity and he is the dead
woman’s son.
 Dynamic Character since he begins with
love and ends with anger and humiliation.
 Direct Characterization because the
author tells the characterization of him.
The Priest
 He is the priest of the church where the
woman is mourn.
 Flat Character because he only shows one
trait.
 Direct Characterization because the
writer of the story describe the priest’s
characterization.
Mother
 She was a saint, church woman, pure, very
religious and she had a secret
relationship with another man.
 Round Character because she shows
different traits and she is the main
character.
 Indirect Characterization because other
character describe her characterization.
Setting: The setting of the story is in the
house of the dead woman at night
Plot:
Exposition:
The exposition of the story is when the Woman
or the Mother of Marguerite and Magistrate dies
Rising Action:
When Marguerite and the Judge decided to read
their Mother’s old letters and discover the
shocking and disappointing secret of their
mother, the story’s rising action begins.
Climax:
When the children discover that their mother
had a hidden lover, the story reaches the
climax.
Falling Action:
The falling action of the story is when the
judge or the son feel so humiliated that he
takes his sister and never acknowledges his
mother’s existence again.
Denouement:
The denouement of the story is when Marguerite
and the Judge never think the same way about
their mother, the story comes to a close.
Conflict:
The story’s conflict arises from the death of
the woman or mother, as well as the secret she
left behind. The type of the conflict in the
story is man vs. man.

Narration:
Since the narrator does not tell the
characters’ thoughts, instead, he just tells
what they are doing physically, the story’s
narrative is objective.
Point of View:
The point of view of the story is the dead
woman’s children are shocked and disappointed
after finding out the secret of their dead
mother.
Theme:
The theme or the message of the author about
the story is “There is no such thing as a secret
that will remain hidden” because the story focus
about family, reality and the private
relationship of the mother.
Moral:
The moral of the story is Everyone in this
world has secrets, but only few are bold or
brave enough to share them with their loved ones
and also we should known the different sides
before we judge.
