The Most Popular Video Conferencing Tools Zoom vs. Google Meet

As a result of the Coronavirus, people have been forced to find new ways to
communicate with colleagues, customers, and partners. However, thanks to the current
digital era, the public can be facilitated by many choices of services that can be used to
communicate that known as video conferencing. With so many choices for video
conferencing tools available, it is important to look at the differences and similarities
between them, so that people can determine which one best suits their needs. In this case,
two of the current most popular tools are Zoom and Google Meet. They are also said to be
similar for some reason, but they also have some differences.

Basically, Neither Google Meet nor Zoom are video conferencing tools that can
accommodate hundreds of people in a meeting. Both of them also appear in free version
which have some limitations. In the free version of Zoom, there is a maximum of 100
participants including the host. Similarly, the number of Google Meet participants can only
include up to 100 participants. So, if you need meetings with more people, then you have to
change your package to premium. Definitely, these two applications also have a premium
version that you can try as needed.

Another similarity between Zoom and Goggle Meet is their basic functions. Both of
them offer many of the same basic functions, such as call encryption, support for 720p HD
video, and a presentation mode that allows sharing the screen with other participants. As
time goes by, Google Meet has also made some big improvements by adding additional
options originally only found in Zoom, for example, polls, a tiled gallery layout for larger
calls, and division of calls into breakout space. Although this service initially lost a lot of
functionality, the differences between the two services have diminished.
Despite Zoom and Google meet look similar in fact, they also have 3 main
differences.

The first difference is the number of participants offered in the premium version. In
the premium version, Zoom provides a special package known as "large-meeting" add-on.
This package can host up from 500 to 1000 participants, depending on the amount of
money used. Certainly, this package will be suitable for those who want to hold a large-scale
meeting. On the other hand, Google Meet is known for its simplicity, so that the number of
participants is limited to 250 people.

The next difference can be seen from the time limit given. Zoom has a limit for those
on its Free plan. Although you can call multiple members, each call can only last up to 40
minutes. However, the time limit is also imposed in the premium version, the difference is
that the duration is longer, which is around 24 hours. Unlike Zoom, Google meet has no
time limit for making calls, so it will be suitable when you need a meeting with a longer
duration, because you can hold the meeting as long as you want.

Zoom and Google meet also can differ in their additional features. Zoom has a virtual
background feature, where users can open the desired image as a background. Not only
that, there is another important feature called Touch Up My Appearance. This feature is a
filter that can smooth skin and make your face look better. In contrast, Google Meet
emphasizes more on the practical impression which is can be integrated with other Google-
owned applications such as Google Drive and Google Hangouts.

In conclusion, it can be seen that Zoom and Google Meet are pretty similar in terms
of their limitations and basic functions, but they have 3 main differences based on the
number of participants in the premium version, time limit, and additional features. Surely,
these three differences can be used as a guideline for consideration of meeting tools that
suit your needs. So, if you want a simple, private, straightforward way to quickly jump on a
meeting, use Google Meet. However, if you want an enterprise-grade, large-scale video
service with lots of features, you should go to Zoom.

scale video service with lots of features, this differs from Google Meet which is a simple,
personal, and direct service, but all options depend on your meeting needs.
