the trainee’s performance and to give formative feedback based on the selected teaching competencies.

Professional Dispositions

Strengths: Ms Nouf was well prepared for the lesson. She produced a lesson plan beforehand and had
differentiated tasks ready for the students.

Areas for improvement: Make sure there are enough resources for each student, so they do not need to share.

Planning for Teaching & Learning

Strengths: Ms Nouf had a good routine and good flow of the lesson. The students knew what was expected of them.
She modelled the activity well using visual aids. I also liked how she used different words for the topic, for
example: minus and subtraction.

Areas for improvement: Once you have modelled the activities and let the students go do the activity, stay with the
weaker learners to model it again and allow them to do an example together to make sure they know what to do.

Managing Teaching & Learning

Strengths: Ms Nouf used a nice and clear voice to teach the students. She reinforced the class rules and had a good
flow to the lesson. She had lovely differentiated activities according to the student’s level. Time management was
good, allowing the students enough time to do the activity and to reflect on the lesson.

Areas for improvement: Group 3 had a lovely activity, but they got a bit confused with the ten-frame. They were
using numbers up to 20 so it would be better to give them 2 ten-frames so they can use it with the higher
numbers.

Implementing Learning

Strengths: Ms Nouf started the lesson as a whole class where she explained the topic of the lesson, asked the
students some questions and modelled their activities. She had the student’s attention and made sure they were
focused on the lesson.

Areas for improvement: When explaining the activities to the students, maybe call students up to the board to do
an example so they can show their understanding before letting them go into their groups. A few students needed
a bit more explanation and consolidation of the topic.

Assessing Learning

Strengths: Ms Nouf got all the students to clean up after their activities and got them to sit at the carpet. She gave
the students a question that related to their class, ie: There are 24 students in the class, 8 are boys. How many
students are girls? The students worked in their groups and had to write a number sentence and solve it. Each
group had to come up to the board and model their findings.

Areas for improvement: Try give each group a different question according to their ability, for example, the lower
level students can’t work with numbers above 20.
Reflection

Strengths: Ms Nouf had lovely activities for the students to do and had a good flow to the lesson. She had a good
tone to her voice and was clear for all the students to hear.

Areas for improvement: Allow more time explaining the activities for the students who need more explanation and
allow them to come up to the board to show their understanding.

Action Plan (Objectives, actions, implementation timeline, resources):

Spend more time modelling the activities to the students so they can do the activities independently. Differentiate
the exit ticket to allow the lower ability students an opportunity to be able to do the task.
