Cyclone Yaku is a very unusual tropical depression, although mostly


known as a South
Pacific "cyclone",
formed in late
February 2023
that impacted
Ecuador and
northern Peru on
March 4 of the
same year. It was
described by the
Peruvian National
Meteorology and Hydrology Service (SENAMHI) as an "unorganized
tropical cyclone" not seen since 1983 or 1998.

DAMAGE CAUSED BY
CYCLONE YAKU
Due to the intensity of the yaku cyclone it has wreaked havoc on the
coastal population of Peru.

 It damaged public and private infrastructures.


 Cyclone Yaku destroyed homes, in varying magnitudes.
WHAT ACTIONS DO PERUVIAN “YEAR OF UNITY, PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT”

FAMILIES TAKE?
 Drainage systems were implemented in homes.
 Retaining walls were built on houses to prevent water from
heavy rains from entering.
 The objective was to reinforce the roofs of precarious
houses, because the rains would flood them.
