Small Group: Week 16 Small Group 1: April 25-26, 2023

research.

Time Activities

2min Ask students to meet at gray table if possible (if not, in the same area of the classroom) with laptops

2min Have them open their Creative Mini Evidence Project sheet

10min Read over students’ projects and focus on fixing the look and legibility of their projects, then
● “Is your claim on the front or top of your project and is the context for your topic somewhere near the beginning of
where your audience will begin reading?”
● “Do you have evidence and your sources named on your project?” If not, have them look at the Creative Mini
Evidence Project sheet they already made
● Read the context and evidence aloud and ask, “Does this context introduce your evidence well? How?”

3min Check in to make sure they have goals written out on their Creative Research Project/Essay Checklist

1min Allow students to return to desks and continue working

Differentiation: Working as a group, asking students scaffolding questions, using peer supports, asking challenging questions,
Creating Creative Inquiry Questions bell-ringer, Search Engine to Find Connections bell-ringer (scaffolding)

Materials: Small group plan, pencils, laptops, Research Essay on Google Classroom, computer chargers, Discussing and Making
Goals for Writing bell ringer, Creative Mini Evidence Project sheet, Creative Research Project/Essay Checklist

Prep: Go over students’ projects and give them feedback

Next Class: Write next small group plan


Reflection:

It was nice to go over the basics again with students and help them understand how to transfer previous learning to a new

genre/topic. It was frustrating, however, to have students who didn’t begin their project at all before I had them in a small group. I was

still impressed with their work after they did their essays in about 30min, especially in the standard classes.
