Worksheet 6: Think Win-Win

Practice Scenarios

1. At recess four kids usually play tag. One day three of them decide to play football.
The fourth child refuses to play and says they should play tag with him.
a. Describe the problem:

In this problem there are 4 kids and out of the 4, 3 of them want to play football and the other
one wants to play tag. The 1 who wants to play tag tries to convince the other 3 to play tag with
him.

b. Write a win-win solution. If you think there is no win-win solution, explain why not
and what is one solution you could try.

A win-win solution could be that the kids play football for a couple minutes and then they go play
tag for the rest of the time. Doing this allows all the kids to play everything that they want. This
would also make sure that everyone feels included and isn’t left out.

2. Four kids are working in groups on a science project. Each child is sharing his/her ideas
about what to do for the experiment. One of the boys in the group feels that the others
are not listening to his suggestions. He starts crying and yelling at the other kids in the
group.
a. Describe the problem:

There are 4 kids in a group working on a project and they are all sharing their ideas. 1 of the
boys is feeling left out and that his ideas don’t matter so he starts crying and getting mad at the
rest of the group.

b. Write a win-win solution. If you think there is no win-win solution, explain why not
and what is one solution you could try.

A win-win solution could be that everyone takes turns sharing their ideas and when they aren’t
sharing they pay attention and listen. Then after everyone finishes sharing they take a few of
everybody’s ideas and combine them to make one big idea. Doing this could make sure that
everyone is able to contribute and feel included.

3. At indoor recess two kids always want to play games together. Each recess they
always spend several minutes arguing over who is going to have which piece.
a. Describe the problem:

At recess there are 2 kids who want to play games together. Every time they can never figure
out a way to share the toys.

b. Write a win-win solution. If you think there is no win-win solution, explain why
not and what is one solution you could try.
A win-win solution could be that they take turns with the pieces or toys so that they both
get a chance to play with them. This will help so that they don’t argue anymore. Also they
can have more play time instead of arguing over the pieces.
