HEAT TRANSFER LABORATORIES

Name: Group:

Experiment No.: 3

Experiment Name: Forced Convection

Aim of Experiment: To determining the relation between Nussult No. (Nu) and Reynolds No.
(Re) Nu = c.PrnRem Nu = C.Rem

Theory:

Nu = f (Re, Pr) For Forced Convection

Nu = f (Gr, Pr) For Natural Convection

Laminar Re < 2300

Transitional 2300<Re<4000

Turbulent Re>2300

Procedure:

1- Switch on the device and Pump air pushed and enter the duct from smooth flow hole.
2- Record current and voltage and wait until the system arrive to steady state stage.
3- Measure the value of ∆T between the T∞air and the Temperature of the heater Tw in
duct by thermocouple
4- Air passes through heater and heated, then measuring ∆P by the pitot tube changing the
readings.
5- Find the Velocity and Reynolds number by the laws.

Calculation and results:

Heater Diameter D = 13 mm
Heater Length L = 140 mm

Tw = ∆T + T∞

Tw+T∞
Tavg. =

We take (ρ,μ,K) at Tavg. from table A5

∑∆P = √∆P1*9.807+√∆P2*9.807+√∆P3*9.807……..+√∆P14*9.807

Pitot tube: Is a tube that used to measure Stagnation Pressure (Total

Pressure).
Static Pressure: It is Pressure due to head.
Dynamic Pressure: It is Pressure due to velocity.
Total Pressure = Static Pressure + Dynamic Pressure

Pitot Tube Application:

Measurement Velocity of Fluid
Measurement Speed of Aircrafts, Boats.
