Flexi Power Distribution and Fuses Outdoor (FPFC) operation

This section describes the operation of Flexi Power Distribution and Fuses Outdoor (FPFC) 472508A.
Flexi Power Distribution and Fuses Outdoor (FPFC) is a stand-alone 19-inch wide outdoor general purpose Pow
Distribution Unit (PDU) with Class II Over Voltage Protection and 15 kA protection level in DC input. It feeds DC
power to Flexi System Modules (without the optional FPFD installed), RF Modules, Remote Radio Heads or
microwave (MW) equipment. The FPFC must be positive grounded in order to provide surge protection for the
site.
The FPFC provides six outlets for Flexi Modules (RF Modules or RRHs or System Module) or any standard -48
DC device at the site. It can also be used, for example, up in the tower to divide one main DC line to several
RRHs or MW equipment in the mast. Flexi Power Distribution Outdoor unit includes input, output connectors and
output fuses.
The FPFC can be installed:
z outdoors with Flexi Module Casing (EMTA) for 2 height units (2U) 470315A or Flexi Module Casing (EMHA
for 3 height units (3U) 470316A to support wall/pole/cabinet/plinth mounting.
z indoors with Flexi Module Casing (EMTA) for 2 height units (2U) 470315A or Flexi Module Casing (EMHA)
for 3 height units (3U) 470316A.
z indoors inside a standard cabinet with doors. The FPFC has M5 threads both on the top and at the bottom
for installing cable strain relief for indoor cabinet use.
Note that if the outer diameter of the six output cables is ≥ 16 mm (0.63 in.), a 3U casing (EMHA) should be use
as otherwise there is not enough room for the cables.
The FPFC provides the following features:
z Support of up to 50 mm2 (0 AWG) or dual 50 mm2 (0 AWG) conductor cross section for input port feeding
z Support of cascading two FPFCs or FPFC to the System Module PDU using the DC Input port (if high
Ampacity Class II OVP is needed for the site)
z Support of up to 35 mm2 (2 AWG) output port conductor cross section (3U casing space)
z Nominal input power range -40.5 … - 57 VDC, extended range -36.0 … - 40.5 VDC and - 57… - 60 VDC

z Two fixed outputs and four adjustable outputs

z 15kA nominal and max. 30kA Class II (C, T2) DC input OVP protection integrated with SPD alarm
z Class II (C, T2) protection for both common and differential mode disturbance
z Protection level UP (Line - Line) < 500 V (at In, 8 / 20 us) and UP (Line - Ground) < 1000 V (at In, 8 / 20 us)
z Output on/off can be controlled by breaker bars on the front panel.
z IP65 Ingress Protection

Ampacity (channels 1 and 2) 30A 45A

Ampacity (channels 3, 4, 5 and 6) adjustable: 4A, 15A, 30A adjustable: 4A, 20A, 30A, 45A

Output port overvoltage protection 1kV 10kA nominal differential mode, 15kA max.

EN 61000-4-5 10kA nominal common mode, 15kA max.

IEC 62305-4 Class II

Input port maximum 180A 240A

Output port maximum 6 x 30A 45A+45A+45A+45A+30A+30A or any mix not

exceeding max. 240A

Note: Current loads of 45A require a 10 mm 2 (6 AWG) conductor cross section wire at the minimum.

The FPFC has two dry contact alarm signals (either NO or NC) to indicate SPD status:
z Normal open connection: 5V alarm detection line is pulled down during alarm: Active = 0, Inactive = 1.
z Normal close connection: 5V alarm detection line is pulled up during alarm: Active = 1, Inactive = 0.

Pin Signal

2 N/C Internally

3 N/C Internally

4 Normal Open

5 Common

6 Normal Closed

7 Reserved

8 N/C Internally

Note: The above pin map is not compatible with FSMx shared LMP/power alarms. A FSEB needs to be used.

In case the protective components have been damaged by the surge pulse, an alarm can be detected from FPF
The alarm connection is Normally Open - an alarm is raised when connection becomes Closed. The complete
FPFC needs to be replaced with a new one in order to protect the power feeding lines again. The damage of the
protective component does not turn off the power feeding between the modules.
In distributed sites, SPD alarms can be connected to the pole top RF Module external alarm interface. In wall,
floor and cabinet installations, the Flexi System Module external alarm interface can be used, too.
