Year and Section: ___________________________ Subject: _____________
Instruction: Solve the following problem correctly. Strictly. NO ERASURES/CORRECTION
ALLOWED; ERASURES/CORRECTIONS MEANS WRONG.

1. The 24-N force is applied at point A of the crank assembly. Determine the moment of this force
about point O. Refer to figure 1.
2. Given that T = 28.3 kN and W = 25 kN, determine the magnitude and sense of the moments about
point B of the following: (a) the force T; (b) the force W; and (c) forces T and W combined. Refer
to figure 2.
3. Knowing that the forces P and Q are equivalent to a single force R that passes through point A,
determine P. (Hint: The combined moment of P and Q about A is zero.) Refer to figure 3
4. Determine the moment of the force about point O. Neglect the thickness of the member. Refer to
figure 4
5. The tower crane is used to hoist a 2-Mg load upward at constant velocity. The 1.5-Mg jib BD and
0.5-Mg jib BC have centers of mass at G1 and G2, respectively. Determine the required mass of the
counterweight C so that the resultant moment produced by the load and the weight of the tower
crane jibs about point A is zero. The center of mass for the counterweight is located at G3. Refer to
figure 5.
