Barangay Salao Upholds programs against Teenage Pregnancy

Teenage pregnancy also known as adolescent pregnancy is in a female under the age of
20. Pregnancy can occur with sexual intercourse after the start of ovulation, which can be before
the first menstrual period(menarche) but usually occurs after the onset of periods. Unwanted
pregnancy among teens has been a problem facing the since the beginning of 19 th century and
still a problem that needs to be addressed.
This advocacy aims to lessen the numbers of teenagers who are getting pregnant, in this
issue, Right Education is the way and key that I can see to make it happen.
The Mission of this is to provide the most current information on strategies being used to
prevent adolescent pregnancy in Barangay Salao. The vision is to bring together all the
stakeholders: teens, parents, educators, as well as the health and social service providers, to
ensure that our Barangay is an environment where teens can make healthy decisions for
themselves.
According to the 2015 record of the Rosario Rural Health Unit (RHU), Barangay Salao
ranked second among the cluster of thirteen barangays to have the greatest number of teenage
girls getting pregnant. This was made known to the barangay officials and health workers to
assess the factors why this problem happens.
Among the factors that could help explain this trend are the younger age at menarche, premarital
sexual activity at a young age, the rise in cohabiting unions in this age group and the possible decrease in
the stigma of out-of-wedlock pregnancy.

Other factors include lack of information about sexual and reproductive health and rights as
well as inadequate access to services tailored to young people. Sexual violence is also a factor.
To address this problem, the advocacy of lessening teenage pregnancy must be pushed.
This will be done by the use of different social media platforms particularly Facebook. A
facebook page is created to disseminate information involving adolescence, reproductive health,
responsible parenthood, inspirational quotes for young teens and other stuff. The name of the
page is “Enjoy Your Season Teens” which delivers a message on its own to enjoy the season of
teenage before anything else.

Explanation why this affects my life:

This news is actually a good one for every teenage girls and bpys living in our
community. As youngsters, we are bound to more adventure and curiosity that lead us to trying
things which are new to us. In promoting against the problem of teenage pregnancy, teens of my
generation not just girls but also the boys will be informed about the consequences of our
actions. We will be more responsible in every little thing we do as we move in an environment
with people of opposite gender.
