Cannabis Industry News: Federal legalization of cannabis delayed until August, advancement
of 3D printed hemp buildings and more
POLITICAL
Senate Democrats are delaying the introduction of the Cannabis Administration and
Opportunity Act until August. The proposal would remove cannabis from the federal list of
controlled substances.
ECONOMIC
The USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) will be funding research
projects to promote hemp as a lucrative crop in the United States. NIFA’s funded projects
will be led by scholars at the North Carolina A&T and Oregon State universities, among
many others.
SOCIAL
A recent poll found that 60% of American Adults believe that cannabis positively impacts
society. Among the people polled, 31% say they use cannabis for medical purposes, while
only 16% use it recreationally.
TECHNOLOGY
A new crypto-based e-commerce application empowers the Emerald Triangle, the largest
cannabis-producing region in the United States. The Emerald Road app is making the locals
more resilient and sustainable in the face of large-scale corporations by allowing them to
produce without fear of insurmountable legal regulations.
LEGAL
A South Carolina lawmaker has introduced a bill to pardon inmates convicted of simple
cannabis possession. This ‘420 Day’ legislation would designate April 20 of every year as the
day when the Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon would absolve 20% of
incarcerated South Carolinians serving time for this misdemeanor.
ENVIRONMENTAL
3D printed hemp buildings could help fix the national housing shortage while saving the
environment. Some hemp construction companies aim to replace cement and wood structures
with hemp-based mixtures.
