Dear Mrs. Davis,

I hope this message finds you well. As the end of the semester approaches, I am proud to
present this portfolio of my writing as a reflection of my growth and development. This
collection of writing represents my writing achievements and serves as evidence of my critical
thinking skills. Through this portfolio, I will demonstrate my preparedness to continue in more
advanced writing and my willingness to seek additional support and guidance to improve my
skills further. This portfolio is a collection of papers representing my writing journey. Each piece
of writing included here reflects my unique voice and perspective, and I have put great effort into
crafting each to the best of my abilities. Whether it be an essay, a research paper, or a creative
writing piece, each writing assignment has challenged me to think critically and communicate
my ideas effectively.
As I reflect on this portfolio, I am proud of my accomplishments and the progress I have
made as a writer. However, I am also aware that there is always room for improvement, and I am
eager to continue developing my skills. Through this portfolio, I hope to receive valuable
feedback on my writing and critical thinking and to determine what additional support I need to
continue growing as a writer. Overall, this portfolio is a testament to my dedication to writing
and my commitment to continuous improvement. I am excited to share my work with others and
to use this portfolio as a foundation for my future writing endeavors.
The first artifact I provided is an argumentative essay I wrote for this class, "Should the food
industry be held responsible for the obesity and health epidemic?" The article begins with an
introduction that sets the stage for discussing the food industry, outlining the different
perspectives and opinions. I then provided an overview of the industry, highlighting its
significance and impact on society and the stakeholders involved. The essay then delves into the
various issues associated with the food industry, such as food safety, sustainability, and nutrition,
in a structured and organized manner. I present each case in a separate section, providing a brief
background, discussing the challenges, and suggesting potential solutions. The essay summarizes
the main points and reiterates the importance of addressing the food industry's challenges.
Overall, the article is well-written and provides a comprehensive overview of the food industry,
highlighting its various challenges and the need for action to address them. My reasoning for
selecting and ordering the submissions comes off as a logical and coherent narrative that guides
the reader through the different aspects of the topic. By presenting the other issues in separate
sections, I ensured that each case was given adequate attention and that the reader could easily
follow the discussion. The essay is informative, engaging, and well-researched. I clearly

understand the topic and present the information clearly and concisely. The report also offers
practical recommendations for addressing the challenges facing the food industry, which adds
value to the discussion. Overall, the essay is a vital piece of writing that effectively conveys My
perspective on the topic.
The second artifact is a biography I wrote on Jeff Bezos. I provide a concise yet informative
biography of Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, highlighting his background, entrepreneurial
journey, and vision for Amazon and the future of technology. I do an excellent job providing a
clear and concise summary of Bezos's journey and achievements, showcasing his dedication and
passion for innovation and entrepreneurship. The article effectively presents Bezos as an
exemplary entrepreneur, highlighting his persistence, vision, and commitment to his goals,
making it a great source of inspiration for anyone interested in business and entrepreneurship.
Overall, the biography provides an informative and engaging account of Jeff Bezos's life and
work, offering valuable insights into his approach to entrepreneurship and innovation. Including
the video further enhances the artifact's value, providing a firsthand account of Bezos's approach
and philosophy.
The third artifact is my research paper "Generational Poverty and How Society can help
Eradicate It." Overall, this writing piece effectively presents the issue of generational poverty, its
causes, and the steps that society can take to help eradicate it. I clearly and concisely define
generational poverty and explain how it can lead to social exclusion, poor health outcomes, and
limited economic mobility. I also identify some primary causes of poverty, such as the lack of
access to education and healthcare and systemic discrimination. This writing piece demonstrates
my ability to organize and structure my thoughts coherently and logically. The work has a clear
introduction, body, and conclusion, allowing readers to follow my arguments and understand the
main points. I also use clear and concise language, making the piece easy to read and
comprehend.
Furthermore, I provide several solutions that can help break the cycle of generational
poverty, such as investing in education, increasing access to healthcare, housing, and nutrition,
addressing systemic discrimination and social exclusion, and providing mentorship, job training,
and financial assistance. These solutions are well-supported by the author's arguments and
provide a comprehensive approach to addressing the issue of poverty. Overall, this writing piece
demonstrates my ability to analyze complex social problems and present well-supported
arguments critically. My writing and critical thinking skills are evident in the piece's
organization, structure, and explicit language. The article would be helpful as evidence to
support arguments related to poverty, social justice, and economic equity.
The fourth artifact is the analysis of "The Frivolity of Evil" by Theodore Dalrymple, which
provides a comprehensive overview of the author's main arguments, including how the
trivialization of evil can lead to its normalization and proliferation in society and the severe
implications that such behavior can have for individuals and communities. The use of examples,
including littering and graffiti, effectively illustrates how seemingly insignificant actions can
have a cumulative effect on society. The evaluation of the analysis is that it is well-written and
effectively conveys the critical arguments of the article. I demonstrate an understanding of the
author's main points and analyze how these ideas relate to more significant issues of morality and
cultural values. My use of personal examples and reflections also demonstrates their
understanding of the importance of personal responsibility and concern for others. Overall, the
analysis provides a clear and concise summary of the article while offering insights and
reflections, demonstrating the writer's critical thinking skills. The evaluation of the study is that
Rowe 3

it is a strong example of effective writing and critical analysis and reflects the writer's ability to
engage with complex ideas and convey them clearly and thoughtfully.
As a literate person, my development and growth have been shaped by various factors, such
as my exposure to different genres of literature, my educational background, and my personal
experiences. These factors have enhanced my reading and comprehension skills and influenced
my writing growth. Initially, my writing was characterized by grammatical errors, poor sentence
structure, and a lack of clarity. However, reading various texts, I began appreciating the authors'
different writing styles and designs. This exposure enabled me to understand better how to
structure sentences and paragraphs and use language to convey my ideas effectively.
Moreover, my educational background has also been instrumental in shaping my growth as a
writer. Through various writing assignments, I have practiced and refined my writing skills.
Additionally, the feedback provided by my teachers has been invaluable in helping me identify
my strengths and weaknesses as a writer and giving me suggestions on improving my writing.
My personal experiences have also influenced my growth as a writer. Through my interactions
with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds, I have broadened my perspective and
developed a better understanding of how to write for different audiences.
My experiences in different settings have also enabled me to develop a unique writing style
that reflects my personality and voice. My development and growth as a literate have
significantly impacted my writing growth. Through my exposure to different literary genres,
educational background, and personal experiences, I have improved my writing skills and
developed a unique writing style.
One of my strengths as a writer is my ability to express my ideas and thoughts clearly and
concisely. I have also developed good research skills, which enable me to gather and analyze
information from various sources. Additionally, I have developed a strong sense of voice and
tone, which allows me to convey my message effectively. One of my weaknesses as a writer is
my tendency to overthink and spend too much time perfecting my writing which often leads to
procrastination and delays in completing my work. I also need help maintaining consistency in
my writing, keeping the same tone and style throughout a piece.
As I look to the future, I anticipate a need to develop specific types of writing skills essential
for success in occupational therapy. These skills may include writing case reports, progress
notes, treatment plans, and research papers. To prepare for these types of writing, I must focus on
developing my technical writing skills and learning industry-specific terminology. Additionally,
I need to improve my ability to organize information clearly and concisely, as other healthcare
professionals will use these documents to inform their treatment decisions. As an occupational
therapist, I will also need to be proficient in communicating with patients and their families
empathetically and informally. This will require me to develop strong interpersonal
communication skills and the ability to write in a patient-friendly manner. I may also need to
build my grant-writing skills to secure funding for research projects or to support my
professional development. I have the foundational writing skills necessary to succeed in
occupational therapy, but there is still room for improvement. By continuing to develop my
writing skills and focusing on industry-specific writing, I am confident that I will be prepared for
the various writing tasks required of me as an occupational therapist.
In conclusion, this portfolio has allowed me to reflect on my growth and development as a
writer. I have learned to appreciate my strengths and weaknesses and identify improvement
areas. I am grateful to my instructor for taking the time to review my materials and offer

feedback. I look forward to further conversations on enhancing my writing skills and achieving
my goals.
