1. Deteriorate 惡化
Ever since people have utilized natural resources, environmental quality has started to
deteriorate.
自從人們利用自然資源以來,環境質量開始惡化。
 = be worse (comparative adjective of “bad”)

2. Fuel-efficient vehicles 節能汽車


And we can get neutral on our energy by getting more fuel-efficient cars.
我們可以通過生產更多的節能汽車實現能源平衡。
 car is a vehicle, but vehicle may not be a car (any transport on the ground)

3. Domestic waste sorting 生活垃圾分類


With the developing of economic, the environmental crisis has been brought to us, and
domestic waste sorting has become a hot topic.
經濟發展的同時也給我們帶來了環境危機,生活垃圾分類已成為熱點話題。
 domestic: 家居的;生活的(adj)
 domestic helper, domestic animals, domestic violence
 sort of:有點;某程度上(informal)
 I was sort of hoping to leave early today. 我今天有點想早一點離開。
 It's sort of silly, but I'd like a copy of the photograph. 這可能有點傻,但這張照
片我想要一張。
 crisis:危機(n)
 economic crisis, family crisis
 in crisis = in trouble = in a mess (but more serious)

4. Irremediable damage 不可挽回的傷害


Over exploitation of natural resources will impose irremediable damage to earth.

5. Desertification 沙漠化
If we continue to destroy forests, land desertification will be an inevitable result.

7. Industrial effluent 工業廢水
Industrial effluent often causes a problem to people’s health.
工業廢水常常危害人們的健康。
 
8. Species loss 物種滅絕
The loss of species and wildlife have caused so many environmental imbalances.
物種和野生動物的損失已經造成如此眾多的環境不平衡。

1. Pull over 靠邊停車


Stop the car 是馬上停車,不要弄混咯!
 
I pulled over to the side of the road to get a cup of coffee.
我把車停在路邊,然後去買杯咖啡。
 
2. Look over 快速檢查
overlook 是「忽視;遠眺」。oversee 是「監督;管理」,等同於
administer、supervise。
 
I quickly looked over all the answers and handed in the test papers before the bell rang.
我快速檢查所有的答案並在打鐘前把考卷交出去。
 
3. Win over 說服
另一個表示說服的片語 talk somebody into,後面接 Verb-ing。也可以用 convince 和
persuade somebody to。
 
He’s not sure about the idea, but I’m sure we’ll win him over in the end.
他對這個主意沒有把握,我相信我們最終會說服他。
 
4. Take over 接管
Some workers will lose their jobs as machines take over.
 
5. Think over 仔細考慮
與 think over 相近的用字有 consider,或 sleep on it。
He asked if he could think the proposal over before giving an answer.
 
6. Get over 克服(困難),從⋯⋯中恢復
在 get over 後面加上 oneself,是指「別自以為是了」。

係 DSE 寫作中,有可能需要就一個觀點提出一些例子,黎 support 你嘅 argument。大家
最常用嘅應該就係 for example 同 such as 啦。但係唔少人會混淆佢哋嘅用法,幾時要擺
係句子開頭?幾時要加逗號?我哋今日就一次過教晒大家,英文寫作中舉例嘅正確寫
法,下次唔好用錯啦!
 
1. For example
通常用於舉一個例子,可以替換 for instance。可以放在句首、句中或句末。
 
For example, maybe you have been filming something.
例如,也許你一直在拍攝一些東西。
 
The report is incomplete; it does not include sales in France, for example.
這份報告不完整,例如在法國的銷售情況就沒包括進去。
 
2. Such as/like
Such as 和 like 一般用來舉兩個以上的例子,其中 Like 是 informal 的用語。
注意 such as 後面不能接完整的句子,只能列出例子。如果 such as 後面的例子多於一個,
須在前面加上逗號。
 
They have pledged to end racial discrimination in areas such as employment.
他們已經保證在諸如就業等方面停止種族歧視。

3. E.g.
需放在在例子前,需要加上逗號。

4. i.e.
與 e.g.的用法相同,不同的是,i.e.是用來釐清或提供更詳細的資訊,相當於「那就是
說」。
 
His stomachache made him feel wretched (i.e. ill) all day.
他胃疼得整天十分難受(即生病)。
 
5. etc./so on
etc. 和 so on 意思是「等等」,表示還有很多例子沒有提出,放在句末。
 
Extreme skaters perform jumps, spins, flips, etc.
極限滑板運動員能做跳躍、旋轉、空翻等動作。
