PURIFIED COOKING OIL

• INTRODUCTION AND ITS BACKROUND

Cooking oil is made up from coconut oil. Coconut is a round and elongate
fruit of white, fibrous and oily meat covered by a thick, brown and hairy shell.
Coconut oil is extracted from the kernel of matured coconuts harvested from the
coconut palm and is high saturated fats.
China and Japan produced the first oil as early as 3000 B.C, soy bean oil. Southern
Europeans started to produce olive oil by 2000 B.C.

Coconut oil is as old as 4000 years. Alexander P. Ashbourne is the inventor

of refining coconut oil. He first received a patent for treating coconut on August
21, 1877. The coconut oil process starts with filtration and bleaching by filtering it
through an activated clay filter. The oil is heated to a very high temperature to
remove any remaining coconut scent or taste, and finally hydrogenated to ensure
that no unsaturated fatty acids are left in the oil.

The purpose of our project is to save money and to reuse oils also to not
waste so much of oils. When recycling used cooking oil, the restaurant’s plumbing
system is immediately protected. However, the local municipality’s sewer lines
are also safeguarded. Used cooking oil poured down sewer pipes makes drainage
impossible, resulting in irreversible damage to the sewer and overflows to the
streets. Used cooking oil can be utilized in the production of animal feeds and be
converted to biodiesel used to power vehicles or biofuels for heating and the
generation of power. By recycling used cooking oil, the cost of cleanup is lowered
tremendously.
