A 74-year-old Passes Away While Playing Basketball For a Team He Played For 55 Years Ago

President of the farmer’s bank in Riverdale, John J. Johnson passes away on Monday, suffering a
heart attack while playing a basketball game at Riverdale high school.

The seventy-four-year-old passed away doing what he loved the most; playing basketball. The
chest pains occurred in the first quarter of Monday night’s game versus Geneva. This comes full
circle as he played basketball for his University, Riverdale, and was even an all-conference
performer on his team.

The love he had for his hometown could not have been found elsewhere. His locality is evident
through his career as he was a member of the Riverdale School Board for ten years, from 1960
until 1970. He then became a member of his local city council, Riverdale City Council for eight
years, from 1970 until 1978. In his post-graduate study, he earned his MBA (Master OF Business
Association) from Riverdale University in 1950. Lastly, he passed as a farmer’s bank president in
Riverdale. If his past does not portray the love he had for his hometown, then what does?

It only makes sense for the funeral to be scheduled at McGrew-Jones Funeral Home 2121
Central Ave. in Riverdale on Thursday, at 11:00 am. The burial’s location is at the Evergreen
Cemetery. As John J. Johnson passed due to a heart attack, contributions and flowers bought
will be donated to the local heart association as a way of still giving back to his community even
in his afterlife.
