CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

Education is the most important factor which plays a great role in the
development of an individual as well as a country. Now a days, it has become a
vital factor for the future brightness of the new generations of any society.
Education has been made compulsory by the government for all the children of
age 5 to 15. Education influences the lives of everyone in positive ways and
teaches us to tackle any big or small problems in life. Education improves the
mental status and change the way of thinking of a person. It brings confidence
and helps convert the thinking into the action to go ahead and get success and
experience.
However, Education won’t be successful without student. Student is the
one who is responsible for taking Education seriously, but how far could a student
go if he isn’t focused on what he’s doing, and he doesn’t have any strategies or
techniques in studying because with strategies and techniques they can ensure
good outcomes.
When it comes to strategies and techniques there comes the word “study
habit”. For a student to aim for a high academic performance he should at least
possess a study habit. Study habit, from the word itself means buying out a
dedicated scheduled and uninterrupted time to apply oneself to the task of
learning. Without it, one does not grow and becomes self-limiting in life.
Learning strategies can also tell a person how much he will learn and how far he
wants to go, and how much he wants to earn. These could be decided with the
help of one’s learning strategies, throughout life. The importance of learning
strategies in a student’s life is that it plays a major role in their academic
performance, because without studies no one can succeed.

Statement of the Problem

1. What are the effective strategies of Grade 12 GAS students in Moonwalk
National High School?
2. How do benefits and skills affect learning strategies of Grade 12 students?
3. Is there a significant relationship between good strategies of learning the
lesson and high academic performance of GAS students in Moonwalk National
High School.

Significance of the Study

The study will show if the students learning strategies like sleeping before
studying, listening to music while doing homework, eating while studying, using
internet while studying etc. affects the grade 12 students’ academic performance.
This study might be an important issue if it will be proven if there is really a
relationship between learning strategies of a student and their academic
performance also this research can tell if the students learning strategies related to
their academic performance in a positive or negative way. This study may
decrease the student’s laziness or tardiness. This research might change the
learning strategies of a student afterward if there is really a relationship between
the learning strategies of a student and their academic performances.

Scope and delimitations

Out of 100 grade 12 GAS students in Moonwalk National High School,30

students were used as a sample in conducting the survey questionnaire.

It’s main purpose is to identify what are the grade 12 GAS student’s
learning strategies in Moonwalk National High School. Each of the respondents
are given same survey questionnaire to focus on studies or topic.

This will be the researchers plan on how they’re going to do the study. The
researchers study depends on our interviews because the researchers will have
their survey in grade 12 students in Moonwalk National High School. The data to
gather will be the researcher’s new reference in the study.
The input is about the profile of the students whereas the gender and age
will be included to know if a lot of female has their learning strategies or male
and vice versa. The process shows that the researchers will conduct their own
survey using questionnaires. And lastly, the output will be the researchers answer
to their problem.

Theoretical Framework

Students learning goals may be structured to promote

cooperative, competitive or individualistic efforts. In every classroom, instructional
activities are aimed at accomplishing goals and are condcuted under a goal
structure. A learning goal is a desired future state of demonstrating competence or
mastery in the subject area being studied. The goal structure specifies the ways in
which students will interact with each other and the teacher during the
instructional session. Each goal structure has its placein the ideal classroom, all
students would learn how to work cooperatively with others, complete for fun and
enjoyment and work autonomously on their own.The Teacher decides which goal
structure to implement within each lesson. The most important goal structure, and
Moonwalk National High School
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT

the one that should be used the majority of the time in learning situations, is
cooperation (Johnson & Johnson 1989,1999.)

Cooperative learning this strategy teach you how work together with your parents
that make idea and this strategy help you do the tack quickly and to know each
others strength and weaknesses. The process of cooperative learning involves
students working together in small groups on a structured activity. The members
of the groups learn to work as a team to accomplish a specific goal,to solve a
problem, to complete a project or to develop a products.

Definition of Terms

Listed below are the terms that would be encountered in the present research.

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE The outcome of education the extent

to which a student, teacher or
institution has achieved their
educational goals

EDUCATION The action or process of teaching

someone especially in a school,
Moonwalk National High School

college, or university. The

knowledge, skill, and understanding
that you get from attending a school,
college, or university. a field of
study that deals with the methods
and problems of teaching.

K-12 A term used in education and

educational technology in the United
States, Canada, and possibly other
countries, is a short form for the
publicly-supported school grades
prior to college.These grades are
kindergarten (K) and the 1st through
the 12th grade (1-12).

LEARNING STRATEGIES The behaviors used when preparing

for tests or learning academic
material.A person who waits until
the very last night before an exam
and then stays up all night trying
to cram the information into his head

is an example of someone with bad

learning strategies.

SKILL Proficiency, facility, or dexterity

that is acquired or developed through
Moonwalk National High School

training or experience: painted with

great skill. b. A developed talent or
ability: improved his writing skills.
c. An art, trade, or technique,
particularly one requiring use of the
hands or body: the skill of
glassmaking.

STUDENT A person formally engaged in

learning, especially one enrolled in a
school or college; pupil: a student at
Yale. Any person who studies,
investigates, or examines
thoughtfully: a student of human
nature.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

LOCAL

Within the traditional learning environment, the SRL strategies with the strongest
findings are metacognition, time management, and effort regulation (Richardson
et al., 2012).
Moonwalk National High School
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT

Metacognition is the most powerful finding in traditional learning, time

management that helps the students to do their tasks more on time, effort and
reagulation to increase their performance, because of this strategy the study gets a
good level or higher grades.

Students who work in pairs and groups typically perform better on tests that
involve reasoning and critical thinking. This is largely because students must
become active learners, discussing and rationalizing lesson concepts in their own
words in the classroom (Guido, 2017).

Students are typically better on performing works in pairs. This is largely because

students need to be active that can fully understand what is being discussed and
quickly learn the concept of rationalization based on their own opinions.

It is critical to coordinate endeavors in instruction in an in-depth investigation of

how logical thinking encourages learning. Corpuz and Salandanan (2015) agreed
that logical thinking through reflection could help students adapt if their prior
knowledge is tapped. Therefore, students have the power to utilize their thing to
maximize the benefit of learning.

“Learning is a painful process” and “learning is an evolutionary process”.This

means that learners may undergo misunderstanding and difficult to understand the
topic and there are times that they may not understand the problem instantly. For
Moonwalk National High School
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT

learning to occur, delivery of the lesson must follow a step-by-step procedure so

all learninng that transfer may not be overloaded.

FOREIGN

In this study, we divided learning strategies into three categories, namely,

metacognitive self-regulation, elaboration, and organization strategies. In
particular, students use metacognitive self-regulation strategies to mobilize
various consciousness and behavior to participate in the learning process, which
can help students effectively implement cognitive strategies (Obergriesser and
Stoeger, 2020).

The use of strategy such as metacognitive self, regulation, elaboration and

organization strategies can help us,these are the strategy or an effective method
that you can study the lessons quickly. Many person have proven this method or
strategy was effective.

Studies have shown that the interaction between students has a stronger influence
on learning satisfaction than that between students and teachers (Jung et al., 2002;
Nagy, 2018).

Social interaction in education is how students interact with each other, with their
teachers, the environment they study in and their materials. Each school has
Moonwalk National High School
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT

different views on what social interaction should look like, but they all have one
thing in common, the teacher also showed them a model that they could quickly
follow their teacher in the lecture and their activities.

In recent decades, learning engagement has been paid increasing attention.

Learning engagement is depicted as a “meta” construct, consisting of three
dimensions, namely, behavioral, cognitive, and emotional engagement (Luo et al.,
2019).

Emotional engagement and students satisfaction are the representative sample

based on their nationality.Students will always get satisfaction based on their
achievements in school, every nationality has their own emotional engagement
and their satisfaction in their study,we made ourselves more satisfied doing our
love in studying so we can give ourselves a motivation in every situation that we
face in school every day.

CHAPTER III

Research Methodology

A. Research Design and methods

The proponents have used the correlation research method where

in the study is focused on present situations. It involves the recording,

Moonwalk National High School
SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEPARTMENT

analysis and the presentation of the present system, composition or

process of phenomena. The techique used is the survey method.

B. Sampling Techniques

The sampling design that the researchers will utilize is simple

random sampling, the Instrument will measure the respondents of Grade 12

Students and also how they conduct their own study study for a certain subject,

how many student per section are basing in their learning strategies for high

grades or vice versa with the mode.

C. Research instrument and Validation

The result and findings of study should always be relate with the

standards with the survey method, researchers aare able to statistially

study the specific areas when the proponents must concentrate. Findings

regarding the common practices being done and the methods which are

commonly adopted by the students are sustained with the used of the

survey method.

Data Gathering Procedures

The procedures that gathered in this situation are the researchers on

choosing some of a respondents who’s high in Academic Performances and

shows what would be their Habits or way how did they learn their lessons.
Moonwalk National High School

The Researcher’s must talking of a main strategies of some Students

especially to those who really know their own way on how to manage the things

they’ll do at the same time and prove some of the skills that we can have as a

living person, this can also help us show our strengths and weaknesses that

depends on the problems that you experienced.By having an interviews with

respondents they really appreciate on doing interviews by helping them open up

their situation that they experience and how would they cope up some

problems, other way was having Surveys and Questionnaires to

answer, obrservations, collecting some Records and Documents from

Respondent’s and Gathered more informations that can use in an offered

research. In this part may we feel confidence that we had in our life that can help

having a communications and feel of everyone’s story that is also relate in

strategies by our different way.
