DIFFERENTIAL CALCULUS CERAE
C- CONTENT
LIMITS OF A FUNCTION- The limit of a function is the value of the function at a
given point. It is defined as the limit of a function as x approaches to a. It is express as
lim f ( x )=L.
x→ a
LIMIT THEOREM- There are 8 Limit Theorems where we can use it to solve for the
Limit of a Function, these are: Limit of a Constant, Limit of Identity, Limit of Sum and
Difference of 2 f(x), Product Rule, Limit of the multiple constant of the 2 f(x), Quotient
Rule, Power Theorem, and lastly the Root Theorem or the Limit of the Radical Function.
ONE-SIDED LIMITS- This is the limit where limit from the left and right exist and are
the same. It is expressed as lim ¿ or lim ¿, we can say it as what is the limit
x→ a−¿f ( x ) =L¿ x→ a+¿ f ( x ) = L¿
of a function as x approaches a from the left or right.
LIMITS AND CONTINUITY- It is defined as the continuity of a function like there is
no break or gap in its graph at that given point. If the limit of f(x) when x approaches to a
is equal to f(x) then it is continuous.
INFINITE LIMITS- The value of the Limits of the given function is either positive
infinity of negative infinity. It is expressed as lim f ( x )=± ∞ .
x→ a
LIMITS AT INFINITY- The value of a function as x approaches to positive or negative
infinity. It is expressed as lim f ( x )=L
x→ ±∞
DISCONTINUITY- There are 2 types of discontinuity, the removable and essential. If
f(x) is discontinued at x=a but limit f(x) exist then it is removable and can be redefined,
but if limit of f(x) does not exist then it is an essential discontinuity.
LIMITS OF TRANSCENDENTAL FUNCTION- Functions that cannot be expressed
in algebraic form and doesn’t satisfy polynomial equation. The functions such as
logarithmic, trigonometric functions, and exponential functions are a few examples of
transcendental functions.
EQUATION OF THE TANGENT AND NORMAL LINE- The equation of the
tangent is of the form (y - y1) = m(x - x1), and the equation of a normal line passing
through this same point and perpendicular to the tangent is (y - y1) = -1/m. (x - x1).
DIFFERENTIATION RULES- There are 6 rules which are: Constant Rule, Constant
Multiple Rule, Power Rule, Sum and Difference Rule, Quotient Rule, and Product Rule.
These rules can be used when deriving an equation to a simpler form.
DERIVATIVE OF TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTION- This is where you can derive
trigonometry. The derivation of sine, cosine, tangent, secant, cosecant, and cotangent is
found with this topic.
DERIVATIVE OF INVERSE TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTION- This is the same as
the derivative of trigonometric functions, but they are negative values or the 'inverse' of
the trigonometric functions.
DERIVATIVE OF LOGARITHMIC FUNCTION- This is the derivative of a
logarithmic function where we can use the rules of a logarithmic function and use chain
rule to find the derivative of the function.
DERIVATIVE OF EXPONENTIAL FUNCTION- We can apply the concept of
exponential function and to get the derivative we can use the first principle of
differentiation using the formulas of Limits.
HIGHER DERIVATIVES- This refers to the repeated process of taking derivatives of
derivatives. Where it could possibly lead to the final derivative which is 0.
IMPLICIT DIFFERENTIATION- There are two variables the x and the y, it is the
process of finding the derivative of the function by differentiating the two terms
separately.
RELATED RATES- The same value of rates, at which 2 variable changes.
MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM VALUES (RELATIVE AND ABSOLUTE)- The
absolute value is the greatest possible value of the function, while relative values are the
values at which the function changes its direction.
E- EXPERIENCE
Calculus as a subject is not easy and very challenging. It will test your ability to the
fullest. I can say that being able to learn this subject was very stressful and draining. I don’t
know but I just can’t get some of the topics, like how do I solved this and that. The topics in this
subject was quite easy at first, but as we go on with the next lessons it gets challenging and
harder to understand. I can see that Sir Corpuz was very eager to teach us the Basics of Calculus,
but Calculus isn’t basic, even though Sir Corpuz was trying his best if you’re a student that
doesn’t help yourself in learning then you still won’t be able to fully grasp this subject. In
Summative tests, my scores were quite low or just average because it was really hard for me to
cope with the lessons and to understand everything because there were a lot to be memorize,
analyze, and solve.
R- REFLECTION
There were a lot of things I’ve actually realized in this subject. First, you need to know and
master the basics of mathematics, you also need to master the functions. Second, you have to
study on your own, practice makes you a master, if you don’t practice then there is a very small
chance that you will remember and understand the lesson. Lastly, listen to the teacher discussing,
if you think that whether you listen or not you will still not understand the lesson, well for me
this is true but in the end of the day at least you were able to listen to the discussion and was able
to take a small grasp about what was the lesson all about, then you can able to apply your
knowledge when you study, then you will more likely to be able to understand it.
A- ACTION
I can apply the lessons I’ve learned from this subject in the future. I can apply my knowledge
in doing my daily activities, and I can also apply what I’ve learned in this lesson in the future if I
would decide to pursue and continue this study. I will apply my knowledge to the best of my
capability, to be able to improve and develop myself as well as my analytical skills.
E- EVALUATION
In conclusion, this subject is not just for me. It is too complex and I’m too lazy to explore this
subject. Although this subject is quite fun to analyze and study, I don’t have the patience to
actually learn it, since it is too complicated for me. But I will try my best to improve my skills
and understand this subject so that I am able to apply it in my future life.
