DEFINITION OF TERMS
BASIC CALCULUS - branches of mathematics deals with the study of
differentiation and integration
DIFFERENTIAL CALCULUS – types of calculus helps to find the rate of change of a
quantity
INTEGRAL CALCULUS types of calculus helps to find the quantity when the rate of
change is known
LIMIT OF A FUNCTION - function reaches as the independent variable of the
function reaches a given value
DIFFERENTIATION - process of finding the derivative of a function.
Infinite Discontinuity – other term for essential discontinuity
DEFINITION OF TERMS
ONE SIDED LIMIT = refers to limit that is based completely on the
values of a function taken at x –value that is slightly greater or less
than a particular value

LIMIT OF A PRODUCT =limit theorems states that the limit of a

product of two functions is the product of their limits

LIMIT OF A POWER = limit theorems states that if n is any positive

integer and
DEFINITION OF TERMS
Limit of a Constant Multiple =limit theorems states that if n is constant and

ESSENTIAL DISCONTINUITY= types of discontinuity at x=c if

REMOVABLE DISCONTINUITY = types of discontinuity at x =c occurs when there is

a hole in the graph
TRUE OR FALSE
___ The trigonometric functions are continuous at every number in their domains.

___The function f(x) has a removable discontinuity at x = c if the limit (L) of the function “as x
approaches c” exists, but f(c) is undefined.

___The two most common applications of the derivative of a function are; Finding the slope
of a tangent line to a curve and instantaneous velocity or rate of change.

____PRE Calculus is a branch of mathematics that studies rates of change of functions.

___A limit of a function is a number that a function reaches as the independent variable of
the function reaches a given value.

the limit of f(x) at x= a and denote it by .
___A one-sided limit from left or right “as x approaches a” takes only values of x
smaller or greater than “a” respectively.
