consistent, become role models and are fully present.

Characteristics of a Boss
- Micromanagement, a one-size-fits-all approach to management, lack of leading by example,
lack of empathy, a focus on blame rather than solutions and support, usage of their own team
as pawns for their own success, lack of focus, take of other´s credit, lack of respect, and lack of

Characteristics of a Leader Based on a Theory

Trait theory:
Suggests that certain inborn or innate qualities and characteristics make someone a leader.
These qualities might be personality factors, physical factors, intelligence factors, and so on.

Situational Theory:
Means adapting your leadership style to each unique situation or task to meet the needs of the
team or team members.

Style and Behavior Theory:

it suggests that leaders aren't born successful but can be created based on learnable behavior.
Behavioral theories of leadership focus heavily on the actions of a leader—this theory suggests
that the best predictor of leadership success is viewing how a leader acts.

Transactional Theory:
It is based on the idea that managers give employees something they want in exchange for
getting something they want.

Transformational Theory:
It promotes a style of guidance that emphasizes motivating employees and creating a vision
and encouraging them to fulfill it. The fundamental skills of a transformational leader include
being able to mobilize employees, inspire them and boost their morale.
Leadership Styles:

Democratic:
Making room for multiple people to participate in the decision-making process.

Autocratic:
Those with ultimate authority and power over others. These leaders tend to make choices
based upon their own ideas alone and do not listen to their team or seek input from others.

Exploitative-authoritative:
Occurs when leaders have a low concern for people and use methods such as threats and other
fear-based methods to get their workers to conform.

Benevolent:
Those who create visible benefits, actions, or outcomes for the common good.

Consultative:
Leadership style that targets team building and uses the skills of others to create plans and
make decisions.

Supportive:
It involves building trust, inspiration, and helping colleagues overcome the challenges they
encounter.

Directing:
It incorporates a high degree of focus on tasks and a low degree of focus on the
employee/manager relationship.
Coaching:
It involves recognizing team members' strengths, weaknesses and motivations to help each
individual improve.

Delegating:
It is s a low task and relationship behavior approach to leadership where a leader empowers an
individual to exercise autonomy.
