Executive Summary
In its simplest form, technological ethics is the study of the moral principles that should be applied when
developing and deploying new technologies. Principles like accountability, restricted access, privacy,
individual control, information security, and acceptable online conduct are among them. More attention
and action are needed to address growing ethical concerns in the fast-paced technological environment of
today. Innovation is having a profound impact on social structure, and there are important ethical
challenges that come with the widespread use and development of ICT. Some of the most common ethical
issues in the ICT sector are cyberbullying, breaches of confidentiality, improper exploitation of
confidential detail, and abuses of access rights. The moral consequences of cyberbullying, including
invasions of privacy, can be accessed via the lenses of Kant, utilitarianism, and virtue ethics. As a
community, we adopt moral norms for ICT to make sure we don't negatively impact other people or the
environment. By studying innovation's guiding principles, individuals can establish moral guidelines for
handling all resources responsibly.
Introduction
Ethical theory has taken a close look at morality. How people in a society arrive at their own conclusions
about what constitutes right and wrong is the subject of this essay. It has been the subject of numerous
technological and artistic representations (Mayo, 2021). It considers a wide range of factors to establish
what is safe and what could be harmful. Ethical analysis appears to be a method for determining which
morally sound option is best in each circumstance. AI safety is a major legal issue. AI systems can be
dangerous if not built and used carefully. Thus, AI developers must prioritize safety in all aspects of their
work, through design and development through deployment and use in the actual world. This includes
testing AI systems to detect and manage safety hazards and ensure that they're dependable, resilient, and
secure. AI workers should also examine the effects of their job and take steps to reduce hazards to persons
and society.
Utilitarianism
An ethical theory known as utilitarianism places premium on doing the best for the most people.
Utilitarianism, when applied to the issue of safety property rights, would put the security and happiness of
the community ahead of the rights of single property owners. According to utilitarianism, if an asset
presents a serious threat to the safety of others, it may be essential to restrict the owner's rights in order to
ensure everyone's wellbeing. In order to reduce the potential for harm, it may be necessary to implement
safety standards, restrict the use of specific materials, or take other precautions. In an effort to protect as
many individuals as possible from potential danger, these procedures would be implemented. It would
acknowledge the value of private property rights and the need to protect them. Therefore, restrictions on
property rights should be implemented only after due deliberation, and only if they are required to avert
harm and are adequate to the level of danger posed.
Virtue ethics
According to virtue ethics, when it comes to protecting their tenants' safety, owners should take decisive,
accountable, and compassionate action. This may entail putting in place safety features or adhering to
safety procedures to guarantee that visitors to their property are not put in danger. In addition,
homeowners may have a duty to help ensure the public's safety and well-being by, for example, speaking
out in favor of laws that safeguard the public interest. However, virtue ethics would agree that each
person's values are unique and that people should act in ways that are consistent with their own.
Depending on one's own set of core principles and values, this could entail advocating for community-
wide safety measures rather than taking a reactive stance.
Utilitarianism
From a utilitarian perspective, the fear of AI's capacity could affect happiness or well-being. Autonomous
AI systems may injure humans or breach human rights, lowering their sense of happiness. Utilitarianism
says that ethical AI system creation and execution should be contingent upon their ability to enhance
happiness or well-being. AI systems should be built to maximize happiness and used to help the most
people. Utilitarianism also emphasizes long-term ethical decisions (Roberts, 2019). This view views AI's
capabilities as a worry about the long-term effects of building and using AI systems. Thus, ethical AI
decisions should consider both short-term and long-term effects.
Virtue ethics
According to the ethical theory known as "virtue ethics," developing good character traits is crucial to
encouraging people to act morally. In virtue ethics, one's moral character and the cultivation of qualities
like compassion, intelligence, and courage serve as the foundation for making ethical judgments.
Concerns about AI's potential can be understood in terms of a worry that the rise of AI systems will
undermine human virtues and ethical standards. The development of fully autonomous AI systems that
are capable of making their own judgments raises concerns that they may behave in ways that are not in
line with human virtues or ethical ideals (Havens, 2018). For this reason, virtue ethics advocates making
ethical choices concerning the creation and usage of AI systems with the end objective of bettering human
character. This necessitates that AI systems be developed and deployed in a way that encourages the
cultivation of admirable traits like kindness, intelligence, and bravery.
Conclusion
In the end, as AI develops, people and companies must emphasize ethical principles linked to safety,
property rights, and AI fear. AI systems must be carefully created, tested, and risk-assessed to assure
safety. To avoid exploitation and defend privacy, information and artificial intelligence property rights
must be properly established. Finally, education and transparency regarding AI systems' operation and
development must allay fears of their power.
AI development should prioritize ethics to serve society without harming it. Governments, organizations,
and citizens must collaborate to set ethical AI rules. This will improve people's health and security and
create trust in AI's ability to handle real-world problems. Ethics must remain an issue as AI technology
evolves and changes society.
