SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GRADE V

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Understand the meaning and use of Conjunctions.
2. Identify the different types of conjunctions (coordinating and subordinating).
3. Explain the purpose of conjunctions.

A. Motivation
Flash a word puzzle on the screen and let the students fill in the missing letters to create a word
that relates to the lesson.

B. Unlocking Difficulties
Have the students read the following words and their meaning.
Connect – to join together two or more things
Dependent – a person or thing that relies on another.
Independent – not requiring or relying on something.
Phrase – a group of words that works together in a sentence.

C. Lesson Proper
*A conjunction is a word used to connect clauses or sentences or to coordinate words in the same
clause. (The teacher will give sets of examples about conjunctions)
*There are different kinds of conjunctions, coordinating conjunctions and subordinating
conjunctions.

Coordinating conjunctions is used to give equal emphasis to a pair of main clauses.


Always remember the acronym FANBOYS. (Teacher explain the meanings of the acronyms and
gave example).
Subordinating Conjunctions is used to join independent and dependent clauses.

Independent Clause- a group of words that contains a subject and a verb and expresses a
complete thought. An independent clause is a sentence. (Teacher gave examples)
Dependent Clause – a group of words that contains a subject and verb but does not express a
complete thought. (Teacher gave examples)

Common Subordinating Conjunctions


After in order that unless
Although rather than until
As (as if) since when
Because so that whenever
Before than whereas
Even though that whether
If though while

Teacher will give set of examples for subordinating conjunctions.

D. Activity
Ask the students to prepare a ¼ sheet of paper and let them participate on the game. The game is
identifying conjunctions used on the following sentences that will be flash by the teacher on the
screen. After that, the students should be able to answer whether it is COORDINATING or
SUBORDINATING.
E. Summarization
Recalling all the important details that was discussed.

VI. Assignment
Ask the student to copy the paragraph on the screen and encircle the conjunctions used.
