I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding that words are
composed of different parts to know that their meaning
changes depending in context
B. Performance Standards The learner uses strategies to decode correctly the
meaning of words in isolation and in context
C. Most Essential Compose clear and coherent sentences using appropriate
Learning Competencies grammatical structures: subject-verb agreement, kinds of
(MELC) adjectives, subordinate and coordinate conjunctions, and adverbs
of intensity and frequency
D. Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Observe correct use of conjunctions in sentences;
Recognize coordinate and subordinate conjunction;
and
Use conjunction in sentences correctly.
II. CONTENT Coordinating and Subordinate Conjunctions
When the sole of your shoes open, what do you use to put
them back together? (mighty bond or rugby)
Coordinating
conjunctions connect
words, phrases and
clauses.
There are seven (7) basic
examples of coordinating
conjunctions these are for,
and, nor, but, or, yet and
so. (Remember the
acronym FANBOYS).
Subordinating
conjunctions connect
independent clauses to
dependent clauses.
They help show a
relationship between
two clauses involving a
transition of time or
place. It also
establishes relationship between two ideas.
These conjunctions are used to join two clauses together that
are grammatically unequal.
In other words, the clause without a conjunction (the
independent clause) is able to stand alone, while the
clause that contains the conjunction (the subordinate
clause) cannot.
D. Engagement
The students will do the following activity:
Learning Task 3:
1. The boy wanted to go to the park (and, but) he had
What I Have Learned? homework to do before he could go.
2. She doesn't eat cheese, (nor, or) does she drink milk
because she is lactose intolerant.
3. He can buy a brand new charger, (yet, or) he can borrow
the charger from his sister.
4. Sally studied intensely for her calculus test, (for, so) she
got a high grade in her class.
5. Andrew wanted to quit his job, (so, for) he wanted to travel
the world instead.
Learning Task 4:
Answer the following. Write the correct coordinating
conjunction. Choose from for, and, nor, but, or, yet and so.
Write your answers in your notebook.
1. I like chocolate _______ it really tastes good.
