ACTION RESEARCH PROPOSAL
Infographic Manual of Science VI Experiments: A Developed Learning Material
for Home Schooling

I. Context and Rationale

Science is a universal subject that spans the branch of knowledge that examines the

structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.

The standards for science education provide expectations for the development of

understanding for students through the entire course of their K-12 education and beyond. No

one could deny that Science has played the important role in education of the people today and

before in the history of mankind.

An interest in Science comes from intellectual curiosity, the love of experimentation.

Every day, we conduct science experiments, posing an “if” with a “then” and seeing what

shakes out. A willingness to experiment has helped us drive deeper into the nature of reality

through the pursuit we call science.

In the “new normal” pace of educative process, instructional materials must be prepared

for most effective and advantageous manner. . To add variations to teaching, it is advisable to

teachers to make use of some techniques and visual materials to make lesson interesting. The

selection of materials according to increasing difficulty, interest and application help to ease the

task of teaching and learning.

The process in the “new normal” mode of learning is by learning at home at learners’

respective pace. In this pandemic crisis, learning mode of delivery seems to be tough especially

in my locality wherein some learners live in remote areas. There is a need to develop a

supplementary materials needed to enrich learning using new modalities, a developed learning

material is needed. This innovation is hoped to present Science in a more attractive and

interesting manner. Thus, a clear interpretation of experimentation must be presented to obtain

its accurateness. That is why there is a need to enhance experimentation procedures by using

infographic manual, thereby arousing pupils’ willingness to do the activity.

This study will be conducted to determine the performance of Grade VI learners of

Banga Elementary School for School Year 2020-2021 in Science experimental activity with or

without infographic manuals.

II. Action Research Questions

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using infographic manual for home

experimentation.

Specifically, this study has the following objectives:

1. What is the performance of the two groups of respondents in the pretest?

2. What is the performance of the two groups of respondents in the posttest?

3. Is there a significant difference between the pretest scores of the control and

experimental group?

4. Is there a significant difference between the posttest scores of the control and

experimental group?

5. Is there a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores of the control

and experimental group?

III. Proposed Innovation, Intervention and Strategy

The researcher has formulated strategies to solve the problem according to priority are
as follows:

Schedule of Implementation
Strategies Date Cycle
Using infographic manual. October – January 2021 First Cycle

Encouraging parents to February 2021-May 2021 Second Cycle

assists their children in

preparation of experimental

equipment and materials and

performing such activity.

Encouraging teachers and February 2021 – May 2021

Third Cycle
parents for continuous

guidance and supervision of

pupils with learning difficulties

specially in individual learning.

Strategy 1 will be firstly implemented to make the program viable. In the event, It is also

believed that this is the most ideal and effective way to solve the identified problems.

IV. Action Research Methods

a. Participants and/or other Sources of Data and Information

The participants in this study are the 72 incoming Grade VI learners. Two regular

sections were included out of five sections that the school have. They will be

randomly assigned in the control and experimental groups. Their names shall be

placed in a “tambiolo” and one by one picked by the researcher. The control group

will be given a regular Science experimental activity found in the module or in

textbook while the experimental group will be provided with a teacher designed

infographic manual of experimental activities.

Both groups will be given a pretest test on last week of November,2020 using a

teacher-made analysis test and a posttest will be administered on last week of

January 2021.

b. Data Gathering Methods

This research follows the Pretest – Intervention – Post-Test Design. To eliminate

the threat to validity of mortality, the school will do its best to be learner-centered,

and maturation of the history, the researcher will implement in the shortest time

that will not anyway compromise the results

1. Instrumentation. A quantitative experimental research will be employed in

this study. The treatment material were the infographic manual of

experimentation compiled from the Science VI books and modules. There

were 10 item Analysis Test per experiment . The researcher constructed the

test based on book and module structured questions.

2. Administration. In making groups more comparable the same activity will be

given. The only difference will be the control group will not be subjected to the

use of infographic manual while the experimental group will use the

infographic manual. The experimental activity will conducted on their

respective pace. Both groups will answer the same questions on Analysis

Test on pretest and posttest administration.

c. Ethical Issues

The researcher will ensure that maximum respect and confidentiality will

be given to the respondents. Parents’ permission will be sought on learners

identified as subject for the study. On the onset of the study, the researcher will

monitor subjectivities, for avoidance of personal biases. Outmost confidentiality

of their identity and the data gathered will be of great concern. The references

lifted from literature will be given proper citations.

d. Data Analysis Plan

In this study, the scores of both the pretest and the posttest will be taken and the

data will be coded, tallied and will be statistically treated using the mean,

standard deviation and t-test of significant difference.
