POWER by Kanye West is my favorite song of all time.

This is because of the context of Kanye’s

situation during the creation of the album, the music itself, and the lyrics show a series of highs and lows that

encompass My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the album it was on, as well as Kanye’s whole career. Kanye

Expresses how he sees himself in his best moments and his worst, and what he plans to do in both. This and

many of his other songs have motivated and helped me in my life and they have been for years. I believe that

everyone can and should express their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, which is what Kanye does in POWER.

Before the creation of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye was one of the most polarizing men

in America. During the 2009 Emmy Awards, a drunken Kanye made a rant about Taylor Swift and why she

didn’t deserve the award, claiming that “Beyoncé had one of the best music videos of all time”. This would

soon make him become hated amongst Americans. Even President Barack Obama poked fun at him in front of

the rest of the nation. For Kanye to come back, he needed his best work yet. Kanye isolated him and his fellow

producers and artists for months in Hawaii to make his magnum opus. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

showcased Kanye’s fame and what had come with it, both good and bad. POWER was the track that held both

of the album's main ideas to a tee. The first half is about Kanye boasting of his success,he refers to himself in

the third person and says “No one man should have all that power” and “He knows he’s so… gifted”. For the

last third of the song he fantasizes over his death and shows the downsides of his fame. He says “Now this will

be a beautiful death, Jumping out the window, Letting everything go”. POWER is a musical masterpiece in an

iconic album

POWER was one of the first songs by Kanye I can remember listening to. I have listened to it

numerous times, and I have loved it every time I listen to it. Before every sports game, I would listen to this

song. If I needed motivation to do something, I would listen to this song. If Ifelt like I couldn’t think of

anything creative to make something, I would listen to this song. Later in my life I would use POWER as a

gateway to the rest of his music and it has changed my life. POWER shows how important it is for people to

express their thoughts, because I have been in situations like him where I wanted to do something I shouldn’t

do and I think of how others like Kanye have gone through it too. POWER shows how important expression is,

especially expressing your feelings, thoughts, and emotions.
