Description of Safety Symbols

WARNING

“Warning” indicates that inappropriate use of instrument might result serious injury to the user and

Important Notes

WARNING

Potential electromagnetic or other interference between equipment and other devices


being operated together in the same environment may expect an adverse influence on
functioning of the equipment. Any devices not in compliance with EMC requirements should
not be used together in the same environment.

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits of EMC requirements in
EN 61326-1:2006. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful
interference from adjacent devices.

CAUTION

1. Do not hang excessive weight on or pull the bag hook downward in a forceful manner.
(This avoids damage to the weight-sensitive device above the bag hook.)
Do not hang weights over 1 kg (2.2 lb) on the bag hook.
2. Hold the stand while in motion if the main unit is mounted on.

Battery Capacity
Turn power off to save the battery when the machine is not to be used for a ling while. Unit power
will turn off automatically if a control key has not been touched for 30 minutes.
A machine with a fully charged battery can operate continuously for approximately 50 hours.

Keeping
Avoid using or leaving the machine in a location where the temperature is higher than 104 F (40 C).
Keep it away from any heating source, direct sunlight, where the equipment is exposed to water
vapor, where the humidity is extremely high or there is a ventilation problem, and where the
equipment is subject to excessive shocks or vibration. Don’t operate the equipment with a wet hand
as well.

1. General Scope and Features

The Blood Collection Monitor TM CM350 monitors blood flow to measure blood volume collected in
the blood bag, and clamps the tubing automatically when the collected blood volume reaches the
preset target volume.

A large display panel displays pertinent information, as the following:


- Total weight of blood and blood bag (GM) --- (range: 0 ~ 1,199 gram)
- Collected blood volume (ML) --- (range: 0 ~ 1,199 mL)
- Preset target volume (ML) --- (range: 100 ~ 600 mL)
- Elapsed time of collection (min : sec) --- (range: 0 : 00 ~ 19 : 59)
- Operation mode and symbols (LOW, ALARM, PRESET, CAL, , , , GM, ML)

To ensure error-free operation, diverse audible and visual alarms are activated:
- When a collection procedure is properly completed. ("End collection alarm")
- When one minute has elapsed since the preceding mixing. ("No mix alarm")
- When 30 seconds have elapsed since the bag was removed from hook. ("Bag off alarm")
- When blood flow rate is lower than 30 mL/min. ("Low flow alarm")
- When 20 minutes have elapsed from collection start. ("20 minute alarm")
- When battery voltage is low. ("Low battery alarm")

Audible alarms are also generated to provide the following alert and indication messages:
- Beeps for 10 seconds when 10 minutes have elapsed from collection start. ("10 minute alarm")
- 3 beeps when [POWER] key is accidentally pressed in a collection cycle. ("Wrong key alarm")
- A short (0.2 sec) beep when any control key is pressed. ("Key touch indication")
- A long (0.5 sec) beep when device power is turned on or off. ("Power on/off indication")

Three indication lamps on the panel provide visual signals to phlebotomists.


- The START lamp turns on when collection starts and flashes when collection is completed.
- The CLAMP lamp indicates tubing is clamped or not.
- The MIX lamp signals it's time to mix the blood bag.

CM350 has more features as the following:


 Measurement accuracy is guaranteed by automatic weight calibration. Users can calibrate the unit
with a 500-gram calibration weight in a very simple procedure.
 Users can mute audible alarm sounds.
 Unit power turns off automatically if a control key has not been touched for 30 minutes.
 The unit has a rechargeable battery pack. Once the battery pack is fully charged, the unit will run
for approximately 50 hours. A charging adaptor is supplied for recharging.

Environmental Conditions for transport and storage:


- During transportation equipment should be free from any shock, vibration, heat or wet condition.
- Packing box should be handled not to be broken.
- Environmental conditions for transportation and storage should be kept as follows.
1. Temperature: 20 ~ 70 oC (4 ~ 158 oF)
2. Relative humidity: 10 ~ 100%
3. Air pressure: 50 ~ 106 kPa

3-2. Control Keys and Indicator Lamps (Figure 2)

(1) Display panel - Displays weight, volume, elapsed time and operation symbols.
(2) [POWERCAL] - Dual function key:
 Short press (a click for 1 second) - Turns device power on or off.
 Long press (hold for 3 seconds) - Calibration procedure starts.
(*) Remark:
If the key is pressed during a collection cycle, power does not turn off but a warning alarm
(Wrong key alarm: 3 short beeps) sounds. This is a measure not to make the device turned
off by an unintentional or accidental press during a collection cycle.
If the key is pressed and held for 20 seconds continuously, device power does turn off
regardless of the procedure. This is a measure to make the device turned off during a
collection cycle, in case that user wants to stop a collection before completion.
(3) [TIMEBEEP] - Dual function key:
 Short press (one click) - Displays elapsed time from start (min : sec).
 Long press (hold for 3 seconds) - Turns beep sound on or off.
(4) [5 ml ▼] - Decreases target collection volume by 5 mL increments.
(5) [PRESET] - Displays preset target collection volumes.
(6) [5 ml ▲] - Increases target collection volume by 5 mL increments.
(7) [START] - Starts a collection procedure cycle. The green lamp turns on.
(8) [CLAMP] - Opens or closes clamp.
(9) CLAMP lamp [ ] - Turns on when the tube clamp is closed.
(10) START lamp [ ] - Turns on once collection procedure has started, and flashes at
completion.
(11) MIX lamp [ ] - Flashes after one minute has elapsed since the preceding mixing.

3-3. Display Panel (Figure 3)

(1) Main display area - Displays weight, volume and elapsed time.
(2) [GM] - Indicates the displayed weight is in gram.
(3) [ML] - Indicates the displayed volume is in milliliter (mL).
(4) [ ] - Indicates the audible alarms are muted.
(5) [ ] - Indicates collection procedure is in progress. The indicator turns on after [START] is
pressed. Indicator flashes either when the collected volume reaches target volume, or
when a low flow alarm is activated.
(6) [LOW] - Turns on when battery charge is low (LOW ), or when flow rate is low (LOW ).
(7) [ ] - Turns on during battery recharging. Flashes when the battery has been fully charged.
LOW is turned on when battery charge is low.
(8) [ALARM] - Turns on when any alarm is activated.
(9) [PRESET] - Indicator for target collection volume.
It turns on when [PRESET], [5 ml ▲] or [5 ml ▼] key is pressed.
(10) [CAL] - Indicator for calibration mode.

4. Preparation for Use

4-1. Installation (Figure 4)

(1) Assemble the pole on the stand pedestal.


(2) Slide the CM350 unit down on the pole mount.
(3) Attach it to the pole. Adjust height and tighten the thumbscrew.

4-2. Automatic Weight Calibration

It is recommended that the weight calibration procedure be performed prior to the first donor
collection of the day. It is also recommended when collecting on a mobile vehicle, to repeat the
weight calibration procedure each time the vehicle is moved to a new location. Precise leveling of
the unit or the site is not required. The weight calibration procedure can be done automatically
using the following steps.

 Automatic calibration procedure:

(1) Press and hold [POWERCAL] key for 3 seconds.


 Calibration mode starts.
 The display panel shows C A L for 3 seconds, and then
shows 0 GM.

(2) When 0 GM is displayed, place the 500-gram calibration weight


on the bag hook.
 The display panel shows current reading of calibration weight.
 CAUTION: Keep the calibration weight from moving.
Don't touch any part of the unit and the stand.
 In 10 seconds the display panel indication changes to 500 and
flashes. A long beep sounds.

 REMARK: If the display panel shows the following screen


instead of showing 500, AdJ is displayed and flashes. It is an
error message indicating a manual adjustment is necessary
prior to automatic calibration procedure.

Remove the calibration weight from hook and follow the


procedure in the Section 4-3 below.
(3) Remove the calibration weight from hook.
 Power turns off automatically.
 Calibration mode is completed.

4-3. Manual Calibration Adjustment

As in the Section 4-2, weight calibration is done automatically. However, automatic calibration can
be done when calibration deviation remains within ±2 % range (490-510 grams). If the calibration
deviation falls outside the range, a manual adjustment is necessary to get calibration deviation back
into automatic adjustable range. It could happen if CM350 has had severe shocks.
If A d J appears during calibration process in the Section 4-2-(2), remove the calibration weight
from hook, and follow the manual calibration adjustment procedure below.
Manual calibration adjustment is done by simply turning a potentiometer located on the left side.
In the hole next to the charger jack is a potentiometer. Turning the potentiometer changes load cell
circuit ratio to adjust the calibration deviation back into automatic adjustable range.

 Manual calibration adjustment procedure:

(1) If A d J appears during calibration process in Section 4-2-(2),


remove the calibration weight from hook.
 Power turns off automatically.
(2) Again, press and hold [POWERCAL] key for 3 seconds.
 The display shows C A L, and then 0.

(3) Press [START] key once.


 DO NOT place the calibration weight on the hook.
 A d J appears for 3 seconds, and then 0 is displayed.

(4) When 0 GM is displayed, place the 500-gram calibration weight


on the bag hook.
 The display panel shows current reading of the weight.
(5) Turn the potentiometer either CW or CCW until the value
falls within the 499-501 range.
(6) Remove the calibration weight from hook.
Wait for 3 seconds until 0 is displayed.
(7) Place the calibration weight again on the hook.
If the value is out of the 499-501 range, repeat (5)-(7).
(8) When the value falls within the 499-501 range, remove the
calibration weight from hook
(9) When 0 GM is displayed, press [POWERCAL] key to exit
manual calibration adjustment mode.
 Turn power off.
(10) Follow the automatic calibration procedure in Section 4-2.

5. Operating Procedures for Collection

The purpose of the Blood Collection Monitor TM CM350 monitors the volume of blood collected
in the blood bag by measuring the weight, and clamps the tubing automatically when the
collected blood volume reaches the preset target volume. It also tells when to mix blood with
coagulant by blinking the MIX indicator lamp.

(1) Press [POWERCAL] key.


 CM350 turns on.
 The display panel shows all screen fonts for 5 seconds, and
then displays 0 GM.

(2) With [PRESET], [5 ml ▲], [5 ml ▼] keys, set target collection (e.g.)


volume. The volume is adjustable between 100-600 mL range.
 Display panel will default to preceding collection volume
selected.

(3) Place the primary blood bag on the bag hook. (e.g.)
 Display panel shows the weight of the primary blood bag.

(4) Satellite bags if any may be placed on the rear hook.

(5) Guide segment tubing through tube clamp.


Adjust tubing so it loops freely. Do not pull tubing too tight.

(6) Press [CLAMP] key.


 Clamp closes and the CLAMP indicator lamp turns on.

(7) Prepare phlebotomy site and perform venipuncture.

(8) Press [START] key.


 A collection cycle begins.
 Clamp opens, and blood starts to flow.
 The START indicator lamp turns on and symbol
appears.
 Bag is tared to "0" mL.

 REMARK: A collection cycle begins only when the bag (NOTE)
weight is between 30-500 grams. If the key is pressed when
the weight hung on the bag hook is either below 29 grams or
over 501 grams, an error message ("E r r") is displayed.
The display panel shows the current weight in 3 seconds.
Check the blood bag to adjust what's wrong.
Press [START] key again.
 NOTE: The unit ignores an abrupt change of the weight while
the unit is in a collection cycle. Any weight change of +/ 30
grams or greater in 1 second interval will be ignored so the
display remains unchanged.
 NOTE: The following alarm may sound.
- Low Flow alarm if blood flow rate is below 30 mL/min.
- 10 Minute alarm if 10 minutes have elapsed.
- 20 Minute alarm if 20 minutes have elapsed.

(9) The MIX indicator lamp (MIX ) blinks after one minute has
elapsed since preceding mixing ("No Mix alarm"). MIX
Mix the bag periodically as required by your facility's protocol.
 NOTE: When the blood bag is removed for mixing, collected
volume figure displayed on the display panel freezes until the
bag is placed back to the bag hook.
 REMARK: If the bag is removed from the bag hook for more
than 30 seconds, an alarm will sound ("Bag Off alarm"). If the
bag remains off the hook for 1 minute, the unit will return to
the initial power-on state and all collection data will be lost.
 CAUTION: Do not disturb the collection bag while the last 20
mL are collected. The weight of the bag is being verified.
The MIX indicator lamp will not turn on during this period.

(10) When collected volume reaches target volume, collection ends. (e.g.)
 Clamp closes automatically.
 The START indicator lamp and symbol flash.
 End Collection alarm sounds. (3 long beeps)

(11) Crimp tubing. Follow facility’s protocol to end donation.

(12) Press [CLAMP] key to open the clamp. (e.g.)


 Display panel shows the total weight of the primary blood bag,
including the anticoagulant with the weight of blood collected.

(13) Press [TIMEBEEP] key for elapsed time of donation.

(14) Remove the blood bags.
Go to step (2) above for the next collection, or press
[POWERCAL] key to turn the unit power off.

 Power turns off automatically if device is idle for 30 minutes.

NOTE

If equipment is not operated properly, see the troubleshooting section(9-1.) of this manual.

6. Operational Tips

(e.g.)
(1) To record collected blood volume:
  See Operating procedure shown in step (10) above.

(e.g.)
(2) To record total weight of blood bag and collected blood:
  See Operating procedure shown in step (12) above.

(3) To record elapsed time of collection:
  Press [TIMEBEEP] key.

(4) To activate or deactivate the audible alarms: (e.g.)


  To turn off, press [TIMEBEEP] key and hold for 3 seconds.
When muted, symbol appears on the display panel.
  To turn on, press the key and hold for 3 seconds again.
(e.g.)
(5) To check the current setting of preset target volume:
  Press either [PRESET], [5 ml ▲], or [5 ml ▼] key.

(e.g.)
(6) To change the preset target volume during collection:
  Adjust the target volume anytime by pressing
[PRESET], [5 ml ▲], or [5 ml ▼] key.

(7) To stop a collection before completion:


  To stop a collection with saving collection data, press
[5 ml ▼] key to decrease the target volume to current
collected volume.

  Remove the bag from the hook and wait for 1 minute.
All collection data will be lost.
  If [POWERCAL] key is pressed and held for 20 seconds,
device power forcibly turns off. All collection data will be
lost.

(8) To turn the power off:


  Press [POWERCAL] key. This key will not respond unless
the collection mode has ended. To stop a collection before
completion, refer to step (7) above.
  Device power automatically turns off if a control key has
not been touched for 30 minutes.

(9) To dismantle the unit for storage in the carrying container:


 1) Loosen thumbscrew and take out the unit with pole mount.
2) Push the unit upward to remove it from pole mount.
3) Turn the pole counter-clockwise to remove it from the
pedestal.

7. Audible/Visual Alarms and Display Indication

A. End Collection alarm:


This alarm is activated once collected volume reaches the preset target volume.
 Alarm sounds 3 long beeps and it repeats once every 30 seconds:

Pressing CLAMP key terminates collection procedure, and turns off the alarm.
 Tube clamp closes. The CLAMP indicator lamp turns on. The START indicator lamp and
symbol flash.

B. No Mix alarm:
This alarm is activated after one minute has elapsed since the preceding mixing.
 Three short beeps sound at the beginning of this alarm.
 The MIX indicator lamp (MIX ) flashes.
 When the blood bag is removed for mixing, collected volume figure displayed on the display
panel freezes until the bag is placed back to the bag hook.

C. Bag Off alarm:


This alarm sounds if the collection bag is removed from the hook for longer than 30 seconds.
 Short beeps sound for 30 seconds until it returns to the initial state:

 To prevent losing collection data, the blood bag must be placed back on the hook within 30
seconds.

NOTE

If the bag is off the hook for longer than 1 minute during the collection, the unit will
return to the initial power-on state and all collection data will be lost.
Be sure to place the bag back on the hook before this alarm ends.

D. Low Flow alarm:


This alarm is activated if the blood flow rate is below 30 mL/minute.
 Alarm sounds 5 short beeps and repeats once every minute:

 In the display panel, LOW ALARM flashes.

E. 10 Minute alarm:
This alarm is activated after 10 minutes have elapsed from the start of a collection procedure.
 Short beeps sound for 10 seconds, only once:

F. 20 Minute alarm:
This alarm sounds after 19:59 minutes have elapsed from the start of a collection procedure.
 Short beeps sound until the unit returns to its initial state:

 Clamp closes. START indicator lamp starts flashing.


 The display panel shows alternating ▬ ▬ ▬ and the collected blood volume.

NOTE

- To end the collection, remove collection bag from hook and wait for 1 minute.
This will erase collection data. All collection data will be lost.
- To prevent the loss of any collection data, press [5 ml ▼] key to decrease the selected
target volume to the current volume collected.

G. Wrong Key alarm:


If [POWERCAL] key is accidentally pressed during a collection cycle, the power cannot be
turned off. A warning alarm (3 short beeps) will sound.

H. Low Battery alarm:
This alarm sounds when the battery charge is depleted.
 On the display panel, LOW turns on. One long beep sounds once.
 Recharge the battery. If this alarm begins, the battery pack still has sufficient charge to
continue operating for several hours.
 Battery symbol ( ) flashes when the battery pack is fully charged. Stop recharging.

8. Battery Recharging

A. Battery pack:
 The unit is powered by a rechargeable battery pack, consisting of six Nickel Metal Hydride
(NiMH) cells, 7.2 volts/1.8 AH, AA-size.

B. Battery operation:
 Once the battery pack is fully charged, the unit will run for approximately 50 hours.
 If the unit was stored for an extended period, recharge it before use.
 When battery charge is low and needs recharging, LOW symbol will appear in the display
panel. Recharge the battery.

NOTE

Even when LOW symbol is initially displayed, the battery pack will run the unit for
approximately 5 hours.

C. Battery recharging:
 For recharging, use only the charging adaptor supplied with the unit.
 Plug the circular plug of charging adaptor into the battery charger jack on the unit.
Then plug the AC cord plug of charging adaptor into an AC wall outlet.

Recharging continues whether unit power is on or off. Battery symbol ( ) turns on.
 Recharging takes approximately 15 hours if the battery is fully depleted.
If there is a residual charge remaining in the battery, recharging will take less time.
 When the battery pack is fully charged, the symbol ( ) starts flashing.

Remove the AC cord plug from AC outlet, and the circular plug from battery charger jack.
Excessive recharging will not damage the battery pack.

CAUTION

Be sure to use the charging adaptor supplied with the CM350 unit. Using any other
charging adaptor may result in permanent damage to the battery pack and the CM350
unit.

D. Replacement of battery pack:


 The battery pack is a consumable part. The pack should be replaced when its service life is over.
The manufacturer warrants the battery’s life for twelve (12) months from the date of purchase if
proper maintenance and recharging is performed.
 Users can replace the battery pack by access through the rear cover of the unit.
Replacement procedure is simple:
Open the rear cover - Replace the pack - Close the cover.
 When a new battery pack is installed, recharge it until battery symbol ( ) starts flashing.
 When the battery pack is replaced, a settling time of 1 minute should be given after new battery
installation. Wait for 1-2 minutes before pressing any control key.
 If you need spare battery packs, call your distributor.

9-2. Cleaning Instructions


Use a soft cloth and mild detergent to clean the equipment. DON'T use paint thinner, benzene,
solvent or strong detergent.

9-3. Storage
If the equipment is not to be used for a long time, it is recommended to protect it from dust, dirt
or humidity, etc.

9-4. Disposal of Waste Products or Residues.

CAUTION

To dispose the equipment, accessories, and components, follow local governing ordinances
and recycling plans regarding disposal or recycling of device components. Especially a lithium
battery may pollute the environment if the instrument or a lithium battery is abandoned.

When disposing packing materials, sort them by the materials and follow local governing
ordinances and recycling plans.

If the equipment appears malfunctioning, before calling a customer service, it is highly


recommended to check the equipment according to the troubleshooting tips in section 9-1 of
this manual. If any problem persists or the equipment is damaged or malfunctioning, contact
