operation of the Digital Radiography.

1 Introduction
This book describes how to use the software “DAR-8000 Overlay Information Edit Tool”
which edits the display method of the patient information displayed on a screen and a film
of DAR-8000i/8000f. This book is intended for the engineer and service engineer who fully
understand about DAR-8000 series.

If DAR-8000 overlay edit tool is not installed to the system, install it by referring to
Appendix A “Overlay Edit Tool”.

When the attribute of a file and the security setup to be edited with this tool are not set up
correctly, a system may not work correctly, without reflecting an edit result correctly.
Please use this tool after checking and correcting a file attribute and a security setup by
following procedure.

2.1 Object File

The following files are files to be edited.

2.2 Checking the File Attribute

If the “Read-only” attribute is set to object files, the edits cannot be saved correctly.
Clear the “Read-only” attribute using the Windows Explorer.

2.3 Checking the Security Attribute

If the access authority of user “operator” is not set to the object file, these files
cannot be accessed from the application program of DAR-8000 series. Please
check that group “Users” has the access authority using the following procedure.

1) Log in as user “shimadzu”.

2) Select an object file using the Windows Explorer and select [Property] from a
right-click menu.

3) Click [Security] tab and select [Users].

When “Users” does not exist, click [Add] button to add “Users”.

4) Checks that all [Allow] check boxes are selected. When they are not selected,
select “Full Control” check box and click [Apply].

5) Click [OK] to close “Properties” dialog box.

Repeat procedure from 1 to 5 for each file.

This application is a tool for editing the display/print overlay information in DAR-8000
equipment.
Overlay information is information that displays a patient name, patient information, etc. on
the image to be displayed and printed.
This application allows user to change the position or size for each overlay information and
change the font.
The function of this application is shown in “Table 3-1 Function List of Overlay Information
Edit Tool”.

Function Functional Outline
XML File Read and Update Based on the format of XML defined in the Orion Overlay
Function schema definition file (Ooverlay.xsd), read data from the
specified XML file and update the edits.
UTF8 is used for a character code.
Preview Display Function A preview displays the image with the overlay information,
which is to be displayed and printed.
Size of a screen is fixed at 1024x1024, and in order to check
positions, such as circle blanking, an arbitrary image file can
be displayed as a background.
Size and Position Change Each overlay item can be changed in size and position.
Function for Each Overlay A position can be specified using two methods: the
Item coordinates entering in a dialog and the drag and drop
operation.
Font Change Function for A font of each overlay item can be changed in the kind, the
Each Overlay Item size, and the color code.
Appending, Changing and Append new LABEL objects and new Dynamic objects to

4 Screen Explanation
4.1 Main Screen

• Starting the application will display the Main Screen (Figure 4-1).
• This main screen consists of a preview area in the left side of the main screen,
which arranges an object on a screen based on the information described in
XML screen, and an operation area in right side on which user operates.

4.2 Preview Area of the Main Screen

• When the background picture is specified, the background picture file is


displayed in the preview area.
• In a preview area, based on the overlay information on read XML, objects are
arranged on a screen, and a layout can be checked.
• Objects are displayed according to the kind and size of the font, and the
rectangle specification and coordinates specification that are described in
XML.
• In object selection mode, the object size and position can be changed using a
mouse.
• In object append mode, Dynamic objects and LABEL objects can be
appended to the place specified with the mouse.
• About a Dynamic object, two display methods can be selected; the ID display
of DB and the display in the sample character string defined for every ID.
• If a grid display is enabled, a grid will be displayed on the background of a
preview area by 8x8 dots. When movement is performed, a position will be
corrected by 8x8 dots.
• If the frame display of an object is enabled, each object is surrounded with a
white frame.

4.3 Operation Area of the Main Screen

• In an operation area, the XML information, information of each object and the
various processing buttons are arranged.
• The image of an operation area is shown in Figure 4-2 “Operation Area of the
Main Screen”.

5 Operation Explanation
This chapter describes how to operate this system in order of a basic operation, which is
described in Fig. 5-1 “Operating Procedure”.

5.1 XML File Backup

Back up the XML file by referring to Appendix B-6 “Backup and Restore” in M517-E380
“DAR-8000i Installation Manual.”

5.2 System Startup and Exit

5.2.1 Application Start


• Start “Overlay Information Edit Tool” from the Windows start menu. The main
screen (Figure 4-1) will be displayed.
• When an XML file is specified with a starting parameter in application
(OverlayInfoEdit.exe), the XML file can be read automatically at the time of
starting the application.

5.2.2 Application Exit


• To exit application, click [Exit].
• Warning is displayed when XML is edited and not saved.

5.3 Reading and Saving XML Files

5.3.1 Reading XML Files


1) Clicking [Read] in XML file operation section displays “File Selection Dialog”
(Figure 5-5). Specifying an XML file to be read will start reading the file.

2) Completion of reading will display the information of the XML file in XML
information display section (Figure 5-4). The objects described in the XML file
are displayed in the preview area.

• Select the XML file to be read in the common dialog of Windows.

5.3.2 Saving the Changes in XML File


• When save the edited XML file with the same name as the read XML file, click
[Overwrite].
• When save the edited XML file with the new name, click [Rename]. “File Save
Dialog” is displayed to enter new name and save the edited XML file with new
name.

5.4 Switching the Edit Mode

5.4.1 Switching the edit mode


• When a XML file is read, the object edit section will be displayed and the edit
mode can be switched.
• An object is each display area of the character strings or database ID
arranged for print or display according to the definition of a LABEL element or
a DYNAMIC element in a XML file.
• Clicking [Object Select] changes the mode to the object selection mode,
which is described in section 5.5 “Object Selection Mode”.
• Clicking [DYNAMIC Append] changes the mode to the DYNAMIC object
append mode, which is described in section 5.6 “Object Append Mode”.
• Clicking [LABEL Append] changes the mode to the LABEL object append
mode, which is described in 5.6 “Object Append Mode”.
• Except the modes above, such as immediately after starting this application, a
mode is the no selection mode in which no object is selected.

5.5 Object Selection Mode

5.5.1 Selecting an Object


• To select an object, click the object currently displayed in the preview area in
the object selection mode.
• An object includes the rectangle type object to which the coordinates of the
starting position and the end position are set, and the coordinates type object
to which only the start position is set.
• Describe how to switch between the rectangle type and the coordinates type
in 5.5.5 “Changing the Position Specification Method”.

5.5.1.1 Selecting a Rectangle Type Object


• When clicking a rectangle type object to select it, it is displayed as shown in
Figure 5-9 “Selecting a Rectangle Type Object”.
• When selecting an object, the information of the object being selected is
displayed in the object information section in the operation area.

5.5.1.2 Selecting a Coordinates Type Object


• When clicking a coordinates type object to select it, it is displayed as shown in
Figure 5-10 “Selecting a Coordinates Type Object”.
• When selecting an object, the information of the object being selected is
displayed in the object information section in the operation area.
• The coordinates type object cannot be changed in size.

5.5.2 Changing the Label Character String
• When the object being selected is a LABEL object in the object selection
mode, the LABEL edit section is displayed in an object information section.
• The LABEL character string of the object being selected is displayed in the
LABEL text box. To change the LABEL character string, input the text in the
LABEL text box.

5.5.3 Changing the Dynamic ID


• When the object being selected is a DYNAMIC object in the object selection
mode, DYNAMIC edit section is displayed in the object information section.
• DB definition name corresponding to Dynamic ID of the object being selected
is displayed in the DYNAMIC combo box. To change Dynamic ID, select a
desired Dynamic ID from the drop-down menu of the combo box.

5.5.4 Changing the Comment
• The comment of the object being selected in the object selection mode is
displayed in the Comment text box in the object information area.
• A comment can be changed by enter the new comment in the Comment text
box.

5.5.5 Changing the Position Specification Method


• In object selection mode, Clicking [Coordinates setting change] displays the
coordinates information of the object in the coordinates setting change screen.
• In the coordinates setting change screen, the coordinates information of an object
can be changed by entering new start position and new end position, by
selecting the coordinates specification type and a position base.

• In the case of the rectangle type (Rect Type), this screen is as shown in
Figure 5-15.
• In the case of the rectangle type, a start position and an end position can be
changed.
• In the case of the coordinates type (Position Type), this screen is as shown in
Figure 5-16.
• In coordinates type, a start position and a position base can be changed.

5.5.6 Change the Object Position


• There are two methods to change the position of an object; the drag and drop
operation and the value entering in the coordinates setting change screen.
• The drag and drop operation to change the position of a rectangle type object
is illustrated in section 5.5.6.1.
• The drag and drop operation to change the position of a coordinates type
object is illustrated in section 5.5.6.2.
• The procedure to change the position of an object using the coordinates
setting change screen is shown in section 5.5.6.3.

5.5.6.1 Change the Position of a Rectangle Type Object by the Drag and Drop
The drag and drop operation to move a rectangle type object is illustrated in the figure
below.

Click an object. Drag it to the desired position. Release the mouse button.

5.5.6.2 Change the Position of a Coordinates Type Object by the Drag and Drop
The drag and drop operation to move a coordinates type object is illustrated in the figure
below.

Click an object. Drag it to the desired position. Release the mouse button.

5.5.6.3 Changing the Position by Entering Value


With an object selected, click “Coordinates setting change” to set a start position and an
end position.

5.5.7 Changing Object Size


• Only a rectangle type object can be changed in its size.
• There are two methods to change the object size; the drag and drop operation
and the value entering in the coordinates setting change screen.
• The drag and drop operation to change the size of a rectangle type object is
illustrated in section 5.5.7.1 “Changing Object Size”.
• The procedure to change the object size using the coordinates setting change
screen is shown in 5.5.7.2 “Change the Object Size by Entering Values”.

5.5.7.1 Change the Object Size by Drag
• In the object specification mode, drag a bounding box around an object to
change the object size.
• The drag and drop operation to change the size of the object is illustrated in
the figure below.

To enlarge an object to the lower right,


click the lower right blue box.

Move the box to the desired position.

Releasing the mouse button changes


the size of the object.

5.5.7.2 Change the Object Size by Entering Values


With an object selected, click “Coordinates setting change” and set a start position and an
end position to a resizing position.

5.5.8 Change the Position Base
• The position base can be changed only for the object to which the coordinates
are set.
• The position base is the position to decide where the object is arranged. It is
illustrated in Figure 5-23 “Position Base”.
• When a position base is “Up Left base (ul_point)”, the coordinates of the
upper left corner are the start position.
• When a position base is “Up Right base (ur_point)”, the coordinates of the
upper right corner are the start position.
• When a position base is “Center base (center_point)”, the coordinates of the
center of the object are the start position.
• When a position base is “Bottom Right base (lr_point)”, the coordinates of the
bottom right corner are the start position.

(1) With the object selected, click “Coordinates setting change” to display the
coordinates setting change screen.

(2) When the coordinates specification type is a position type, set the position
base in the combo box of “Position Base”.

5.5.9 Delete the Object
In object selection mode, clicking “Object Delete” deletes the object being selected.
The mode changes to the no selection mode.

5.6 Object Append Mode

5.6.1 Appending the LABEL Object


• In LABEL object append mode, a LABEL object can be appended by drag to
the desired positions in the preview area.
• The drag and drop operation to append the object is illustrated in the figure
below.
• The initial settings of a LABEL object are as follows:
LABEL character string is “New Label”.
Font is the base font.
The type to specify the position is the rectangle type.
• The maximum of 256 objects can be appended.

In object append mode, click a desired


position.

Drag the mouse pointer to the desired


lower right position.

Releasing the mouse button appends a


new object.

5.6.2 Appending the Dynamic Object
• In Dynamic object append mode, a Dynamic object can be appended by drag
to the desired positions in the preview area.
• The drag and drop operation to append the object is illustrated in Figure 5-24
“Appending an Object”.
• The initial settings of a Dynamic object are as follows:
Dynamic ID is the first defined ID in DB-display-item sample data edit window.
Font is the base font.
The type to specify the position is the rectangle type.
• The maximum of 256 objects can be appended.

5.7 Changing the Font

• The system uses the font as a base font, which is set in the first TEXT_FONT
element directly under the ORION_OVERLAY element.
• The base font is a standard font. When using a font other than the base font, it
must be set as an individual font.
• Refer to section 5.7.1 “Changing the Base Font” for the procedure to set the
base font.
• Refer to section 5.7.2 “Setting a Font for Each Object” for the procedure to set
an individual font.

5.7.1 Changing the Base Font


• Click “Font” in the Base Font section to display “Font Selection Dialog” (Figure
5-26). The base font and its size can be set. (On this dialog, only the font
name and size can be set.)
• Click “Color” in the Base Font section to display “Color Selection Dialog”
(Figure 5-27). The color of the base font can be set.
• Click “BGColor” in the Base Font section to display “Color Selection Dialog”
(Figure 5-27). The background color of the base font can be set.

5.7.2 Setting a Font for Each Object
• To set a font for each object, select “Specify Font style” check box in object
information section. An individual font can be set in font setting section (Figure
5-28).
• Click “Font” in the Font section to display “Font Selection Dialog” (Figure 5-26).
The font and its size can be set. (On this dialog, only the font name and size
can be set.)
• Click “Color” in the Font section to display “Color Selection Dialog” (Figure
5-27). The color of the font can be set.
• Click “BGColor” in the Font section to display “Color Selection Dialog” (Figure
5-27). The background color of the font can be set.

• Select “Display by ID” radio button in “DYNAMIC Object” in the display setting
section to display the DYNAMIC database ID.
• Select “Display by Sample Data” radio button in “DYNAMIC Object” in the
display setting section to display the character strings of DYNAMIC object,

5.8.3 Appending and Deleting the Sample Data Definition File
• Several sample data can be set. Each sample data is stored in an individual
ini file.
• Each ini file is numbered consecutively beginning at 01.
(From “SampleData01.ini” to “SampleData99.ini”)
• The existing sample file can be used.
• When appending a sample data, copy one existing sample data and save it as
new name, which is one after the last number of the sample data.
Example:
When the existing sample data is “01” to “04”, the new data is named
“SampleData05.ini”.
• When deleting the sample data, delete the file corresponding to the sample
data to be deleted. The following sample data files are renamed one before its
original number.
Example:
When the existing sample data is “01” to “04” and the 02 sample file is deleted,
“SampleData03.ini” is renamed “SampleData02.ini”, and “SampleData04.ini”
is renamed “SampleData03.ini”.

5.9.1 Displaying the Grid


• Select “Display Grid” check box to display the grid in the background of a
preview area by 8x8 dots.
• With the grid displayed, when moving, resizing, and appending an object, the
position is corrected by 8x8 dots.
• With the grid displayed, when the position is changed by entering values in
the coordinates setting change screen, the position is not corrected.

Appendix A Overlay Edit Tool

DAR-8000f provides the overlay edit tool that used to edit the Patient Information displayed
on monitors and films. This section describes how to install this tool. Refer to the following
online manual about how to use it.

1) Log on as user “Shimadzu”.

2) Execute “C:\Program Files\Shimadzu\Tools\OLEditInstaller\OLESetup.bat” from


Windows Explore.

NOTE
“OLESetup.bat” must be used for the installation.
“Setup.exe” found in the same folder as “OLESetup.exe” does not update the
configuration file “OverlayInfoEdit.ini”. Using the overlay edit tool before updating the
configuration file will destroy the system file, causing the application to fail.

3) Click [OK].
