6.6 REPLACING THE J3-AXIS MOTOR (M3)

1 Set a dial gauge at J3-axis, and prepare for single axis mastering after replacement.
2 Push the J3-axis section to the mechanical stopper, or fix it in such a way that it will not swivel
when the motor is removed, for example, by placing tip of the arm in the direction of gravity.
3 Hang the J3 arm and the components on it can be suspended with a crane to prevent falling out when
removing J3-axis motor as shown in Fig. 6.6 (a).

NOTE
If the J3-axis section is not pushed against the stopper correctly, or it is not
placed in the direction of gravity, there is a danger that the J3-axis section will
swivel when the J3-axis motor is removed.

4 Turn off controller power.

5 When the J4 cover (option) is attached, remove it referring to Section 6.20.
6 Remove the connector of the J3-axis motor.
7 Remove the bolts (1) that fasten the J3-axis motor to the J3 casing, and remove the motor (2) and
O-ring (3).
8 Remove the bolt (6) from the motor shaft, and remove the gear (5) and the draw nut (4).
9 Attach draw nut (4) [Applying LOCTITE 243 to the threaded of motor side and tightening torque is
20.0 Nm] to new motor (2).
10 Attach gear (5) over the draw nut (4), and fix them with bolt (6) [Applying LOCTITE 243 and
tightening torque is 6.8 Nm]
11 Attach new O-ring (3), and insert the motor into the reducer.
12 Fasten the motor to the J3-axis reducer with bolts (1).
13 Connect cable connectors to the J3-axis motor (2).
14 When the J4 cover (option) was attached, attach it referring to Section 6.20.
15 Supply the J3-axis grease bath with the specified grease. (Refer to Section 3.2.)
16 Perform single axis mastering. Refer to the SINGLE AXIS MASTERING section of the
robot-specific Operator’s Manual.
