FINAL SCRIPT

A short film ‘Late Again’ by Izzy Carvalho

SCENE 1
EXT: LEAVING HOUSE, MORNING
Front door opens, ETHAN walks out and door shuts behind him as he
runs towards his car. He gets into the car.

INT: INSIDE THE CAR, MORNING

Ethan adjusts his mirrors of the car and turns up the volume.

Bon Jovi ‘You Give Love a bad name’ starts playing.

EXT: OUTSIDE PLAYING FOOTBALL, MORNING

ETHAN (voiceover):
I’m always late, late to class, late to football.
I’ve gotten to the point where half my friends are
used to it.

EXT: STAIRS, MORNING

Ethan up the road past some houses.

EXT: STAIRS, MORNING

Ethan up the staircase outside.

ETHAN (voiceover):
I’m late to work...

EXT: PAVEMENT, MORNING

Ethan continues to run alongside the road.

ETHAN (voiceover):
 And late to job interviews, but I can’t be late for
this.

EXT: GRASS
Running on grass towards the camera and then stops.

ETHAN (voiceover):
I can’t be late for her. I’m going to ask Ava out,
today.

EXT: FLOWER TREE BY THE ROAD, MORNING

Piano music begins to play as Ethan walks past a tree of white
flowers. He then walks back to them and picks off a bunch.

EXT: PAVEMENT, MORNING

Ethan turns the corner and sees Ava. They both look happy. The shot
reveals that Ava is not looking at Ethan, she is looking at another
man.

INT: BEDROOM, AFTERNOON

Ethan is sat on his bed chucking a paper ball back and forth at the
wall.
ETHAN’S MUM
Ethan, lunch is ready!

ETHAN
I’m not hungry!

The piano music fades away and Ethan’s phone starts to buzz. SAM is
calling him and he picks up the phone.

ETHAN
Hello
SAM
What’s up with you?

ETHAN
Nothing much, did you hear Ava has a new
boyfriend?

SAM
Yeah, I think they started dating quite recently.
It came so out of the blue. I’m sorry, I know you
had a thing for her.

ETHAN
Yeah, it’s alright.

SAM
You going to Taylor’s tonight? He’s invited a bunch
of people round to his.

ETHAN
Nah, I probably won’t. Why’d you call?

SAM
Was just asking about Taylor’s.

ETHAN
Ah, okay.

SAM
Alright.

ETHAN
Bye.
Ethan throws a paper ball into the bin.

You going to Taylor’s tonight? He’s invited a bunch of us round to

his.

EXT: STREET, AFTERNOON.

Ethan is walking down the road and comes across a poster. The poster
says, ‘Tear slip below to get anything you want’. He looks at the
poster.

ETHAN
‘Tear slip below to get anything you want?’
‘One wish per person’

Ethan tears off a slip and is teleported into a white area.

INT: WHITE BLANK ROOM

Ethan opens his eyes and looks around confused.

AI VOICE:
Hello?

ETHAN:
Where the hell am I?

AI VOICE:
What do you wish for in life?

ETHAN:
What I wish for? I don’t know, a coffee, a house-

AI VOICE:
A coffee.
 ETHAN:
Wait no, that’s not what I meant-

AI VOICE:
Okay, I will grant your wish.

EXT: STREET, AFTERNOON

Ethan teleports back on the street. He is holding a coffee cup. He
is shocked and runs towards the poster.

ETHAN
I need another wish.

He sees the poster and rips off another slip and gets teleported
again.

INT: WHITE BLANK ROOM

AI VOICE:
Back so soon Ethan? Are you sure you want to make
another wish?

ETHAN:
Yes, I’m sure.

AI VOICE:
It will come with consequences.

ETHAN:
That’s fine, anything.

AI VOICE:
What do you wish for?
 ETHAN:
I want Ava. I want Ava!

EXT: PARK BENCH, AFTERNOON

Ethan is outside and Ava appears near him.

ETHAN:
Hi

AVA:
Hi. I’m Ava, I’m yours now.

ETHAN:
What?

AVA:
Hi. I’m Ava, I’m yours now.

ETHAN:
Do you want to go do something?

AVA:
Hi. I’m Ava, I’m yours now.

ETHAN:
What?

Ava glitches.

ETHAN:
You’re not the real Ava.
Ethan gets up and leaves.

INT: INSIDE COFFEE SHOP, AFTERNOON

Ethan looks around the coffee shop and sees that the coffee cup is
sort of blacked out and looks like a void. He looks around again and
notices that they are all like this.

ETHAN (voiceover):
If I wished for coffee, and they are going void.
And I also wished for Ava, then what’s happening to
her right now?

He reaches for his phone and leaves.

INT: OUTSIDE COFFEE SHOP, AFERNOON

He calls Ava and she picks up.

INT: AVA’S BEDROOM, AFERNOON

He calls Ava and she picks up.

AVA:
Hey.

INT: OUTSIDE COFFEE SHOP, AFERNOON

He calls Ava and she picks up.

ETHAN:
Ava, are you okay?

INT: AVA’S BEDROOM, AFERNOON

He calls Ava and she picks up.
AVA:
I’m fine yeah why.

INT: OUTSIDE COFFEE SHOP, AFERNOON

He calls Ava and she picks up.

ETHAN:
It’s fine don’t worry, I just thought-

INT: AVA’S BEDROOM, AFERNOON

He calls Ava and she picks up.

AVA:
Ethan! What’s wrong with my hand.

Ava looks down at her hand and it is glitching.

NT: OUTSIDE COFFEE SHOP, AFERNOON

He calls Ava and she picks up.

ETHAN:
It’s fine, don’t worry, I’ll be there in a second.
Ethan starts running.

INT: AVA’S BEDROOM, AFERNOON

Close up shot of Ava’s hands being void and static.

EXT: NEAR BRICK WALL, AFTERTOON

There is a shot of the sky becoming void, Ethan notices this and
then runs away from it straight into a portal.

INT: BATHROOM, AFERNOON

Ethan is teleported into a bathroom where he looks in the mirror and
his face is blurred out. He turns around to the other mirror which
opens a new portal, he touches the mirror and is teleported again.

EXT: BUSY ROAD, NEW YORK CITY

Ethan is teleported to New York. There is a ‘close up’ shot on his
face which zooms out to reveal the dolly shot of him on the Times
Square Billboards. He starts spinning and is teleported again.

INT: LIVING ROOM, ENGLAND

Ethan walks out of the living room into the dining room and sees the
void static coming towards him. He looks down at his hands and they
have been blacked out. He is now stuck in the void permanently.
