Build a Circuit

How to make a circuit? A circuit is a path that electricity flows along. It starts at a power source,
like a battery, and flows through a wire to a light bulb or other object and back to other side of
the power source. You can build your own circuit and see how it works with this project!

Materials:

● 9V battery

● LED bulb

● Resistance

● Wire tape

● Connector

● Switch

● Wire

● Wire tape
NOTE: you can use available materials in your house.

Procedures:

Series Circuit

● Take 3 LED bulbs and connect them in a series connection to split the voltage. Connect
the positive terminal of one LED with the negative terminal of another LED using wire
tape.

● Connect the wire of the battery’s connector with the negative terminal of one LED bulb.

● Now connect the red wire with the positive terminal of the LED.

● Connect both red wires through a switch and connect the battery with the connector.

● Now to test the series connection, on the switch and you’ll see that LED bulbs glow.

Parallel Circuit

● Take 3 LED bulbs and connect to the negative leg of the LED. (Parallel Circuit)

● Connect each to a copper wire using a soldering iron ( can use wire tape instead).

● Now, connect the switch to the copper wire in the positive leg direction.

● Connect the battery connector wire with the switch and connect directly another wire into
the negative direction.

● Now, connect the battery with the connector.

Combination Circuit

● Take 3 LED bulbs and connect them in a combination circuit connection. 1 bulb is series
and the other 2 bulb connect it to parallel circuit.

● Connect the edge/ terminal of the wire to the switch then directly to the battery.

● Now try to light on your circuit. Notice the series circuit is lighter than the parallel bulb.

Note:

● you can add resistor to your circuit for equal distribution of your voltages.

● You can add more bulb depending on your design

● Be Creative

Things to remember!

● Working slowly and carefully during the cutover.

● Work on a self-healing mat to protect your work surface.

● Learn all you can about the materials and techniques you’re using.

● Work carefully during wire attachment.

● The battery will be warm during the experiment, be careful with it.

● Be careful during work with soldering iron.

Questions

● What can you say about the electric current that flows through bulbs connected?

-As electrical current flows through a resistor, the filament of a light bulb releases
energy as heat and light. When the two light bulbs are connected in a series, the
circuit's resistance doubles while the current flow is now cut in half. When
electricity is passed through a wire, the wire heats up because electrical energy
is converted to heat.
● What will happen if you connect additional bulb in this circuit?

-It depend in what the circuit is, in series circuit if you add a another bulb the voltage will
share equally so the light of the every bulb are the same but in parallel the voltage is
divided on every bulb so if you add a another bulb in parallel the light of the bulb will
decrease as you put a bulb

● What happens when you open and closed the switch?

-If we open the switch the electric current flow from the battery will flow through the wire
and will make the bulb gets light, then if we closed the switch, the battery charge will
stop on the switch which makes the bulb turn off.

● How does this electricity move from this circuit?

-The charge carriers in the circuit move in the opposite direction to the normal current
flow, from the positive terminal to the negative terminal of the battery. This fact is
because the direction of an electric current is the direction in which a positive charge
would flow. Electrons go through the cables in the reverse way.
● Why does the other bulb is brighter than the other?

-There are two factors that affects the bulbs’ illumination, first is the quality of the bulb
and the other one is if the circuit has a resistor. If the bulb is damaged, it won’t light the
same exact light with the others. In addition to that, the other bulb was brighter while the
others were dim because of the lack of resistor, due to that, the charges were not
distributed evenly in each bulbs, therefore, made the light’s level of illumination not equal
with every bulbs. Thus, these two factors were the reason why the other bulb is brighter
than the others.

● How would your day change if you didn’t have any electricity? Are there things you could
use that are powered by batteries instead?

-Our day would change if we didn’t have electricity because electricity is important in our
daily lives. It is required to operate all appliances, entertainment systems, lighting
systems, and technology. Without electricity it will disrupt communications, water and
transportation, banks and other services. Additionally, telephones and computers would
no longer be functional and the internet could not be accessed. Your mobile phone will
be useless as the battery dies, with no back-up charging option. Also, there are things
we could use with batteries instead, such as heavy-duty flashlights, portable radios,
remote controls, wall clocks, flashlights, etc.
