Important
 Answer 10 questions selecting five questions from part A and five questions from part B.
 Write the relevant steps and the correct units in answering the questions.
 Each question carries 10 marks.

 Part - A
Answer five questions only.

1) The following advertisement was displayed in a mobile shop.


Find the annual interest rate based on the above advertisement in a mobile shop.
2) An incomplete table showing the y-values corresponding to several x-values of the quadratic function
𝒚 = 𝟒 − 𝟐𝒙 − 𝒙𝟐 is given below.

a) (i) Find the value of 𝑦 when 𝑥 = −1.
(ii)Using the standard system of axes and a suitable scale, draw the graph of the given quadratic
function on a graph paper, according to the above table of values.
b) Using the graph,
(i) Find the range of value of x on which function is positive and decreasing.
(ii) Write the coordinates of the maximum point of the graph and thereby write the quadric
function in the form 𝒚 = −(𝒙 + 𝒂)𝟐 + 𝒃,herea and bare constants..
(iii) Find the value of √5 ,by considering the 𝒙 coordinate of the intersection point of the graph
and the line 𝒚 = 𝟎.

3) (a) Sundar's amount of money more than Ramu has. When Sundar gives Rs. 20 toRamu, their money
is equal and when Ramu gives Rs. 22 to Sundar, Sundar's amount of money is double the amount of
Ramu's money.

(i) Consider𝒙 be the amount of money Sundar has and𝒚be the amount of money that Ramu has
and construct a pair of simultaneous equations by using the above information.

(ii) By solving the pair of simultaneous equations, find separately the amount of money each
person actually has.
(b) Simplify:

4) A lamina consisting of a semi-circle Aof radius 𝑥 units and quarter circle


of B, which is concentric with the semi-circle, is shown in the figure. If the
sum of the area of A andB is 𝟐𝟒𝝅 𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒔, show that𝒙 is satisfies the
quadratic equation 𝒙𝟐 + 𝟐𝒙 − 𝟐𝟗 = 𝟎 and show that with reasons that
𝒙can take exactly one value.
By using 5.48 for the value of √30 find an approximate value for the radius
of the quarter circle B, to the first decimal place.

5) Amal is at the foot of the post office building at A and Sumit is at the top of the building.Amal
observes the top of the Lotus Tower at a horizontal distance of 100 m from the building at an angle
of elevation of 74°.
(a) Copy the given figure in your answer script and include the
given information in it.

(b) Using the trigonometric tables do the following calculations.


(i) Find the height of the Lotus Tower.
(Ignore heights of Amal and Sumith)
(ii) If the height of the post office is 50 m, find the angle of elevation
at which Sumit Lotus Tower is observed

6) The following frequency distribution shows the information collected on the number of units of water
used daily by the residents of housing scheme.

(i)
(ii) What is the modal class of this frequency distribution?

(iii) By taking the mid-value of the modal class as the assumed mean, find the mean number of units of water that
is consumed by a house in a day to the nearest whole number.
(iv) A Local Government Authority charges as a water bill Rs. 240 monthly fixed fee, for the first 10 units
Rs. 30, for the second 10 units Rs. 60, for the third 10 units Rs. 90 and for every unit more than that additional
Rs. 120 each has to pay. Calculate the average monthly water bill of a house in this housing complex.

Part - B
Answer five questions only.

7) In a Grease Pole climbing competition held at a Sinhala and Hindu New Year sports festival, a
competitor climb the Grease Pole with a height of (Ignore the drop distance )

 2.5 m in first attempt

 2.75 m in second attempt.


If the height climbed in each attempt is lie in an arithmetic progression.
(i) Write the first four terms of this arithmetic progression.

(ii) Find the height reached by a competitor in the 8th attempt.

(iii)If the total height of the Grease Poleis 12.5m, show that that the number of attempts to get the wining
flag is less than 50. (Competitor must climb to the top of the Grease Poleto get the winning flag)

(iv) Find the minimum total height the competitor must climb the Grease Poleto win.

8) Use only a straight edge with a cm/mm scale and a pair of compasses for the following constructions.
The construction lines should be drawn clearly.

(i) Construct a triangle ABC such that AB = 7.5 cm, BC = 4 cm and 𝐴𝐶̂ 𝐵= 90°.

(ii) Extend AB to X such that BX = 2cm.

(iii)Construct the circle which touches 𝐴𝑋at 𝑋 and also touches 𝐵𝐶. Name its centre as O.

(iv) Name the point where above circle touches BC as Y.

(v) Give reasons why 𝐴𝐵̂ 𝐶 = 𝑋𝑂̂𝑌

9) In the parallelogram ABCD shown in the figure, the midpoints


of the sides ADand BC are respectivelyP and Q.E is the
midpoint of the side DC. The point of intersection of PQ and
AE is G. Moreover, PQ and BE intersect at H

(i) Prove that PQCD is a parallelogram.

(ii) Show that area of ∆𝐴𝐷𝐸 + area of ∆𝐵𝐶𝐸= area of ∆𝐴𝐵𝐸

(iii)Show that 𝐷𝐶 = 4𝐺𝑃

10) In the given figure, the tangents drawn to the circle with centre𝑂 through the points 𝐴 and 𝐵 intersect
at point 𝐶.𝐷 is any point on the circle.

Prove that

11) (a)A hemispherical container of radius 𝑟 is completely filled with


water. This water is poured into a container in the shape of a right
circular cone of height 12 cm as shown in the figure, such that no
water spill out. If the height of the water level is 9 cm.
Show that the radius 𝑟 of the hemispherical container is obtained by

(b) If a = 10 cm find the value of r to the nearest whole number using logarithm table.
12) A survey was conducted on 60 students in a cultural center on whether they play the guitar (A), tabla
(B) or violin (C) is shown below.

 42 people play the guitar.

 all those who play the violin play the guitar.

 10 students do not play any of these three instruments.

(i) Represent this information in a Venn diagram and find the number of students play only the
tabla.

(ii) The number of students who play only the guitar is 6. If the number of students playing tabla
and guitar is 4 times the number of students who play only the guitar.find the number of students
who play only violin and guitar.

(iii)9 students play all these three musical instruments. Find the number of students who play only
tabla and guitar.

(iv) Shade the region relevant to the part (iii) in the Venn diagram
