Hello Parents/Guardians,

My name is Mr. Doege, and I am so excited to welcome your student into my English II
class for the 2023-2024 academic school year! This is my first year at Southwest High School,
and I hold a strong passion for English and love working with my students to hone their writing
skills and explore the deeper meaning of literature.

Below is a brief outline of several priority procedures in my classroom to ensure a productive

learning environment:
• CELL PHONE USE
o Students are expected to put all cell phones and electronic devices away during
teacher instruction and all activities where devices are not needed.
• BEGINNING OF CLASS
o Students are expected to be on time to class and in their seat working on the
daily warm up in either their journals or on Chromebooks. This will be a daily
element of our classroom and cover a variety of topics every day of the week.
• RESTROOM PROCEDURE
o Students are expected to utilize passing periods to go to the restroom and/or get
water. Students will not be permitted to leave the classroom to go to the
restroom in the first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes of class or during direct
instruction.

This course will be graded on the completion of various tasks in a timely manner using the
weight system below. Grading policies for late/missing work is also outline before using the
policy set forth by the district.

• If a student turns in an assignment two days late, it is a 20-point deduction penalty.
• If a student turns in an assignment three or more days late, it is a 30-point deduction

MAKE UP/REDO ASSIGNMENTS

• If a student is absent on the day of the assignment, it is their responsibility to make up
the work. Make up work will be accepted on the number of days the student is absent.
• Students are permitted to redo assignments within the same grading period (3 weeks).
After the grading period passes, redoes are no longer available for assignments during
that time.

If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please do not hesitate to contact
me via email (tdoege@swisd.net) or set up a time to meet during my conference period (7th
period). I look forward to working with you and your child to ensure a productive school year
full of learning and growth!
