QUESTION 10
QUESTION 11
Let Tank A and Tank B be two connected mixing tanks. Initially, Tank A contains 60 gallons
of pure water, while Tank B contains 120 gallons of brine in which 80 pounds (lbs) of salt is
dissolved. Brine with concentration of 6 lbs/gal is entering Tank A through an inlet pipe at the
rate of 10 gal/min. The well stirred solution in Tank A flows out into Tank B through a
connecting pipe at 12 gal/min, while the mixed solution in Tank B is allowed to flow out into
Tank A through another connecting pipe at the rate of 5 gal/min. At the same time, the
solution is drained out from Tank B through an outlet pipe at the rate of 10 gal/min.
a) Construct a system of differential equations that describes the changes in the amount
of salt in both tanks at any time t. Do not solve the system.

b) State the initial conditions associated with the system of differential equations in (a).
