Practice questions
1. Provide 5 examples of sociocultural factors.
Historical, geographical, personal, social, and cultural

2. Using an example from question 1 explain how this factor can affect your
participation in physical activity.
Social, when playing a team sport, playing with your friends will give an advantage due
to player chemistry, as opposed to playing with strangers.

3. What is the difference between and enabler and a barrier? Provide an example of
each and how each can affect your levels of physical activity
Enablers are things that make physical activity easier and possible while barriers are
obstacles or things that prevent you from doing physical activity.

4. Define each of the following: physical, social, mental and emotional health and
provide an example of each.
Physical health is how healthy your physical body is, a physically healthy person is not
overweight, does not have diseases/sicknesses, etc. Mental health is your mental health
which is very important, people mental sicknesses can find doing specific physical
activities more challenging. Emotional health is the state of your emotions, this is similar
to mental health, an emotionally healthy person is someone who is in control of their
feelings and behaviour and do not get influenced by this. Social health is having good
balance with your social life and physical life, having good social health raises your
wellbeing and ultimately your health. An example of social health would be having good
friendships.
5. What are the four dimensions of health (hint; FITT) Provide an explanation of each
and how each is applied to improve your physical activity and to meet the
recommended guidelines.
FITT is frequency, intensity, time, and type. Frequency is how often you exercise for;
this is how many training sessions are included in your week and how often you train.
Intensity is the volume of effort, exercise with higher intensity has different benefits as
opposed to exercises with low intensity. Time is how long you train for; this varies on
the person. Type is the type of exercise, whether its endurance, strength, upper body
training, etc.
